After the surprising news earlier this year that Logitech was planning to divest themselves of the popular Harmony lineup of universal remote controls, ever since then the company seems to have taken a renewed interest in the product. First, there was April’s unexpected news of two brand new Harmony models. Now, the latest revelation to cross my desk is that after not having exhibited at CEDIA for several years, Logitech Harmony will in fact have a booth at the show later this month in Denver. Who knew remote controls in 1961 could do so much? This public domain advertisement for RCA Victor’s new (well, new 50+ years ago) color console television with 7-function (14-button) “Wireless Wizard Remote Control”, comes from the Library of Congress’ Prelinger Archives and is entitled “Early technology to enable the channel-surfer”. It’s a fascinating snapshot into both the marvellous electro-mechanical technology of the age, and rather lengthy product marketing. Read more...

As 2012 winds to an end and we look forward to what 2013 has to offer, our thoughts go out to each and every person who has helped make Remote Central such a great community over the past year.
This includes our advertisers, without whom we would not even be here (be sure to support those that support RC!); our volunteer forum moderators who fight spam and maintain the peace each and every day; the great folks at ipHouse.com who keep our server up and always available; plus the custom installation and control community as a whole – everyone who takes the time to interact by sharing their knowledge, wit, files... or even just their two cents!
Please accept my heartfelt appreciation, and I wish you all the best for the coming year – which marks our fifteenth year on the net!

Happy Black Friday, everyone! So far I'm not seeing a huge number of remote control deals online... however, here's a few to consider:
Amazon.com has a Lightning Deal on the URC R6 remote control coming up at 5:29 AM PST - that's 8:29 AM EST. Currently it's $13.84, and on the deal it will be... less. You can find the countdown link on this page. If you want something with a little more kick that's not a Harmony, try the latest URC R40 for $113.18.
Amazon also has the Logitech Harmony One for $131.50 (better than last year's sale), and the latest Harmony Touch model for under $225. You can also find the new TouchSquid 7" universal remote tablet for $239.99, which is a fair bit better than the normal price of $299.99.
At RadioShack.com: the Logitech Harmony 600 for $29.99.
At BestBuy.com: the Logitech Harmony 650 for $39.99. Read more...

Happy Friday, everyone!
Today I’m looking to buy a Memorex CP8 Turbo universal remote control, which came out in the early 1990s. There are a few specific requirements, but there’s also a worthwhile cash reward!
If you have one of these and are willing to sell it, please contact me for further details. Read more...
