Thanks.

In answer to Russ S. on volume control for his receiver and also to control one specific device's volume no matter which device you're in, I did the following. First the punch through would not stay programmed so I (and I must admit it was accidential) pressed the device I wanted to control volumn on. Then I pressed the P key until it blinked twice. Next I pressed 975 (the learning function code), then I pressed volume up and it blinked rapidly, until I took the receiver remote control and pushed its volume up key. I then pushed the P key until it blinked twice. I then tried the volume up key for the device I just programed to see if it worked. Once it did, I repeated the whole process for volume down. A note of importance---I did not have to program the receiver remote key because it automatically worked with the manufacturer's code. So I only had to do the learning on the cable box key, and the TV key. Presto, they all would increase the volume no matter which device (TV, Receiver, Cable Box) I was in.

Now, I have a question. I set my power key to turn all the equipment off all at once. However, it didn't accept the cable box into the code. I might have forgotten to press it when I programmed the macro, I don't know. What I would like to do is re-program the macro, but I can't figure out how to erase the macro I just programmed. I used my power key to set the macro on, but does anybody know how I can undue the macro and reprogram it. I am aware that I can press the cable device and then the P key and then the power to control only that one device. The same goes for all the other devices. However, I want the one press to do it all.

Do you think it would be good for everyone if they would share one thing they know how to do that answers someone elses question and then pose their own question? Just a thought.

A number of folks have asked about laser disk and dvd. I just bought an IQ 8800 yesterday, and discovered this site and thread today. I haven't tried to hack the 8800 to learn and macro random keys yet, but I can tell you that the 8800 has different codes for LD and DVD. If it didn't, you probably couldn't run an LD and a DVD of the same brand. Has anyone checked this out?

It's more than just academic to me, as I have a good Pioneer LD and will be buying a DVD soon, and the Pioneer 525 DVD is on my short list...

Wonderful site you've got here. Congratulations to all.

Re: erasing a macro.

Press "P" and hold down until it flashes twice. Type in the macro learning code (995). Punch the button where the macro to be erased is stored (or if a stacked macro, press P, then the macro button). Then press and hold down "P" until remote double flashes. This comes from the Radio Shack online manual mentioned in the first post above.

[Link: support.tandy.com]

I have tested the above procedure and it works.

After reading this thread I ran out and purchased the Radio Shack 15-1994 remote... I was starting to get a large collection of remotes, none of which would handle all my devices. The 6-in-1 appears to be the closet I've come. After two days, I really like it and it might just do the job. I have a couple of questions/problems maybe someone can help me out with.
1) Is there any way to increase the 5 second back light timing??
2) I have a Toshiba 3109 DVD player (dual trays). I can't figure out if there is an Advanced Code to have it swap DVDs/Trays?? (I quickly tried to get it to learn that command but I must be doing something wrong).
3) I also have a Toshiba Cinema Serias rear projection TV... Is there Anyway possible to go directly to a particular video input without having to cycle throuh them one at a time. If not, this could cause I problem if I try to program a macro to change from Video-1 to Color-Stream... 1st, I'd have to know what the current input is then either press TV/Video twice or Three times, depending on the current setting. Has anyone found a way around this issue.
thanks for the great advice.

This is for Your #3 question.
When I program a macro, and I want to have Video-1 active, I add (TV 3)to change the current setting to TV channel 3. Then I add (TV/Video) one time.
The channel number can be any number.
Hope this is the answer your looking for. If this is not clear, will send you the entire macro code I use.

Jack,
Your-the-Man!!!
I think I see what your answer (to my #3 Questino) is doing. Let me know if this is how/why it works... when you send the TV a channel number that forces the TV to switch to the Antenna input... once it is there, you know exactly how many times to send the Input Select signal to cycle through to the desired video input. That's a great idea. Now if I need to go to Video input 1 it's just a single (TV/Video) key press (in the macro), Color Stream would then be 4X (TV/Video) key presses.
I can't wait to try it out and start programming my macros... I was almost ready to switch my DVD output from component (Color Stream) to S-VHS just to avoid this problem.
You saved me.
Thanks
Ken

Thanks for every one in this group.
Just one more question.
There is a function I'd like to put in my micro. There is an extended code for the function but not a predefined button.
Could you put extended codes in a macro? Or do you have to assign a button to the extended code then put the button in the micro?
Thanks

Attn: Ken Armour!

You explaned it better then I did. You must be a teacher??? My TV (Sony 32XBR250)lets me cancel Video inputs, which I do, except Video-1. With my setup, all I need is one input. Please let me know how you make out.

Just acquired the RS 15-1994 aweek ago. I like it so much that I bought another one today for the bedroom. Wish I had known about this unit before I bought the Sony RM-AV2000 for $120. Will more then likly try to sell it on the net. Oh well, live and learn. Best of luck and let me know your results.

I just purchased the RS 15-1994 after reading all of the great comments about this remote. In trying to program it for my home theater I have been unable to get it to recognize any of the Sony VCR codes. I get a single flash instead of the double flash for every Sony code. I have a Harman Kardon AVR80II receiver and a H-K FL8450 CD carousel and the codes listed for H-K don't work either. I know I have to assign one of the AUX keys as a VCR key to setup my DVD (which worked perfectly) but do you have to set an AUX key as a particular device to use it as a receiver key? Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find a good inexpensive universal remote for my home system. I have a Sanyo TV, Panasonic & Technics audio and video components and a RCA DSS reciever. I am new to this universal remote thing so I have several questions. I just purchased a Cinema 7 remote and the up channel will not operate for the RCA dss receiver, I was also looking at a Radioshack remote but have gotten the impression from this site that the remotes are very similar, if so will either of them operate a RCA receiver? Also can the cinema7 remote switch between the different features on my amplifier such as CD,VCR1,Tuner,Tape, etc.
How do learing remotes work? If you have your original remote can you "teach" a learning remote the functions that you want it to perform.
Are there other remotes out there in the $15 to 30 dollar range that will work with these systems?
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

...Jack (or others)
Well Jack, I spoke too soon... Your suggestion to record a macro that contains keystrokes to input a channel to my Toshiba TV then key in the desired number of TV/Video punchs to get to the final Video input, doesn't exactly work in my case. I'm not sure if the Toshiba TV is slow to respond to the channel input so that the next few codes are wasted?? I've tried it several times and my best guess is that the codes are coming so fast that the TV is changing channels and the next few codes are not seen. The strange thing is I tried a much simplier macro (not the turn everything on and set the TV's input to a specific video source) that only changes the TV's channel then have it switch video inputs... I did manage to get one of these test macros to work. In this particular case I sent it 5 or 6 device select keystrokes... so I would press the TV (device) button multiple times hoping that this would somehow act as a delay in the macro sequence. This worked (for this simple macro) but when I went back and tried to put this technique into my Power-Everything-ON/OFF macro it never works... It's like it doesn't see the "Put the TV on a channel) command!!!
Is there a way to incorporate a delay in a macro??
I'm going to try it a few more ways... rather then tell the TV to go to channel 6 or channel 13, I think I'll just try Channel-UP or Channel-Down. This should kick me into the TV/Antenna input then I can try adding the desired number or TV/Video key strokes to get to the desired video input.
Any other ideas from anyone?
thanks
Ken

Does anybody know how to use that Plug 'N Power feature on the remote with the Plug 'N Power Modules/Command Center from Radio Shack? I tried the use the 0240 code with the lamp module and the command center, but my lights refused to turn on. It is fine when I control it with the command center, just not with the remote. Help!!!

Ken,

I have a Cinema7 and a Toshiba TV. In macros, I've used the sequence [TV channel-up] to reset the input to TV/antenna, then I hit TV/video as many times as desired to get to the right input. This has worked for me without the need for delays. My TV seems to respond to the channel-up command quickly and resets the input no matter which input it starts from.

Pat,
You need a IR to X-10 receiver to convert the IR signal from the remote to the line signal for X-10. I think the part number is IR543 or IR4040 (about 25). You can search this thread to find where to buy. Also RS has one for $39.99 (RSU10037703). They are all the same thing under different brands.
