I picked one up earlier this week. RS was actually sold out, but I bought it at the sale price and they'd mail it to me - it came the very next day.

I'm about 3 hours into programming it, and the information and links from this thread have been invaluable.

I actually remapped my TV button to my receiver (Sony 555es), which gives me all the punch through I need.

Forget the "punch through" procedure for volume lock. Check out Jack's 12/19/99 post way up top of this thread. It details the easy programming steps to lock the volume/mute onto all devices and takes only a few minutes. Hint: It must be repeated for EACH device. Write them down and check them off as you complete each step.

After much deliberation I down to order an AV2000 and as I did so I decided to look around one more time and stumbled into this forum. As I read through all the thread I decided that maybe this unit would be an easier (cheaper?) option that with a little time would accomplish all that I really needed. Out of the box it handled my tele (Samsung SLJ403W) except for screen format which I am sure is there somewhere. The vcr (RCA) went straight in as well. My receiver (Pioneer VSX D2) would appear to be working as well (altough I have yet to try any advanced key functions) My DVD (pioneer 525) lacks much to be desired but I still need to work on the advanced keys as well. The real problem and the reason I haven't worked on any of these advanced functions yet is that I cannot seem to find any method to talk to my DSS (RCA) either by code or the code search. Code search will find something that turn the unit off during search but it will either not remember it or it just simply fails to operate it. My CD player (Pioneer as well) has the same problem but I found some new codes for that today that I will try. I know that I could teach the unit to operate from the other remotes but as I've read here I am cocerned that memory will fall far short of being able to learn the majority of the functions I'd need from these remotes to have made this venture worthwhile. I have used the punch-through to control receiver volume for the DVD and VCR already but I am uncear as to whether or not this is already sucking up limited memory and I've got a lot to program in yet (opening the DVD door for example...something I consider useful) Short version of all this is I have become a little frustrated reading all the sucesses posted here and I'm still trying to watch DSS. Any one out there willing to offer some encouragement or advice to get me over the initial hurdles?

An update on the trials and tribulations...I got the codes for for DSS from starbase and manually entered all the code numbers from the list assigning the codes to the keys most resembling those on my old DSS remote. Had to assign power off to the stop key, but other than that there is little difference and now the silly thing works great. Ditto for my DVD player (used the surround key to open and close the door) The CD was a different matter and I had to finally succumb to to letting it learn the most commonly used functions from the old remote. I also had to do this with the "select" key for the DSS as well as the"aspect" (screen size) for the tele remote. I have yet to figure how to change stations on my tuner or how to access various DSP's for listening and watching. I'm struggling with Macro programming to allow my wife to press one button to watch DSS or set everything on and ready for watching a DVD but with a another hour or two I may get that figured out as well. Still looking for tips that would make this easier but I guess for thirty dollars I shouldn't expect this thing to program itself.

I think I found the solution for punch-through volume for a receiver. It is rather obvious. Since macros work on a button regardless of the device mode the remote is in, why not program the receiver's volume +/- and MUTE as a macro. In my case I control the volume always by the receiver on Aux1.
P** 995* Vol+* Aux1* Vol+* P**
Same for Vol- and MUTE.
Quick to program since you don't have to do it for all devices. Works for me and I believe it takes up less memory too.

For those who haven't discovered it yet, there is an excellent FAQ on programming/setup of the One-For-All Cinema 7 and it's cousin, the R.S. 15-1994, over at [Link: ampersand.hypermart.net].

This FAQ was put together by Gerard Pizone from material developed by some dedicated researchers into these nifty and versatile remotes. Those of us who are Johnnie-come-latelies to these gadgets owe a great deal of thanks to our host, Daniel Tonks, and the others who have done a lot of experimenting and documenting that we don't have to do for ourselves.

Here's to you, Daniel, Gerard, David B, Ingenious, and the others who have done this for the rest of us!

Andrew,
This punch-trough volume macro will work, except one small thing. After pushing Vol+(-, mute...) remote every time switch the device mode to AUX1!

Kazik,
I see what you are thinking. I did try and it does not switch the mode. Punch-through works and leaves the device mode alone. Try it! I think the 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s keys switch the device mode, and the other keys such as vol+ do not.

Andrew,
I trying again and still my remote switches the device mode. Remember; before setting macro definition in every key is necessary back to his original function in particular device mode (P**994*key*key**). Macros work on a button independently of the device mode only under original button function. In another case you call the new key definition.
Sorry for my English.
Kazik.

I'm trying to remap keys in order to implement volume-punch through (via the 994 trick). So I do the following:

Aux2*P**9*9*4**Aux1*SURR*SURR**

And I get the double-blink confirmation at the end. But this doesn't seem to work when the key I'm copying has a learned function. That is, there was no preset code for my remote, so I had to teach the 1994 SURR. But that seems to keep the remapping from working.

Can anybody else confirm this or find a workaround? I'd rather not run through lots of memory relearning these commands under every setting.

Can anyone tell me if the advanced key inputs (by code) utilizes the same memory space as the macros? I thought I read somewhere that re-programming by the advanced key function would save you memory vs. using the learning function. I had to input virtually all my DSS codes in and most of my DVDs as well but I have only used about 8 learned functions. I am only able to put in one macro and no matter where I put it or which macro sequence I use, I cannot get another to work. I assume I've exhausted memory (already changed batteries) but I thought I was careful to avoid that. Any one care to comment?

Roadster: as mentioned in the other thread, the two memory spaces are:

1) Learning
2) Macros+Advanced Codes+Remapping

This second space has 180 units. Macros take up 1 unit per keypress in the macro, advanced codes take 4 units, and remapping keys (994) takes 4 units.

Let me update my query on remapping learned keys. In my example above (Aux2*P**9*9*4**Aux1*SURR*SURR), it actually _doesn't_ give me the confirmation blinks, rather it gives me the failure blink.

However, if I do the exact same sequence with VOL+ instead of SURR, it does give me confirmation blinks, and programs the Aux2-Vol+ with something that just doesn't work. For example, if I have Aux2-Vol+ learned as the proper code, and then I try this remapping to conserve learning space, it tramples the learned code on Aux2-Vol+, and it won't control my receiver.

So that brings me to my next questions:

1) Does anybody know of a manufacturer code for NAD receivers that works on the 15-1994? The 0320 listed for the Cinema7 doesn't seem to work.

2) If there isn't such a code, is there any way to sample a discrete power-on and power-off? My original remote doesn't have that feature.

3) Does anybody know if there is a discrete power on/off for Panasonic DVD players (0490)?

4) Does anybody know if there's another Sony TV code (besides 0000) which includes a discrete code for setting the display mode (e.g. "Movie" vs. "Standard" vs. "Vivid")? I went through all 256 advanced codes for 0000 last night, to no avail.

A lot of misunderstandings are connected with calling advanced code (or learning) keys in macros or remapping. First of all: the source key in remapping procedure or macros should have only one function!
This is the base for simple solution. Check non-defined (non-active) keys under a specific device (after pushing this button red light is not blinking); next use the advance code or learning function only for these keys. Finally these buttons can be remapped, or used in macros.
Again sorry for my English, but I hope that pure idea is clear.
