RandySt:

You can't control the Firecracker unit with the remote. Firecracker uses RF (radio frequency) & the remote uses IR (infared). You can get an IR543 a.k.a. 4040 that will recieve the IR signals from the remote and will control your lights. Currently, the IR543 is priced at $20.39 from Worthington. Here's a link:

Hope this answers your question,

I am EXTREMELY impressed with Daniel's site -- this is exactly the kind of value the internet is great for!! Thanks!

That comment aside, I just bought a RS 15-1994 today for $29.95 in Greenville PA. The enthusiasm within the first third of this thread would seem to reinforce my decision, eh??

One thing has me stumped -- (programming for my Zenith 27" TV, JVC HR-S3500U SVHS VCR, and Hughes Electronics DirecTV system was easy out of the box) I did a keyword search of this thread looking for "volume" to no avail, so here goes: How do I get the remote to be at SAT or VCR use, and yet still use the volume (which obviously can't drive anything on those devices!!...) and MUTE button (which is too small on the 15-1994)...

I lost the Hughes remote (reason for replacing it) but that one, my JVC remote, and my Zenith remote can all keep on adjusting volume after choosing a different device for other buttons!! What am I missing here??

I think you want to use the "Punch Through"

See page 10 in the 15-1994 manual.

THIS THING IS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!

It most definitely does work the DishPlayer 7100 satellite receiver / webtv from Dish / Echostar! I had to use the learning features but it wasn't a big deal for me. Woo Hooo!!!! I'm excited! I finally have one remote to replace all 6 of my current remotes and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to operate - meaning my wife and 4 year old can do it.

As a result of the many positive comments on this thread, I picked up a RS 15-1994 this afternoon and had three of my devices working just fine within a few minutes:
JVC TV
General Instruments C-Band Satellite Receiver
LXI VCR

I also have a GE1105P DVD (which I understand is a rather new item on the market) which doesn't seem to respond to any of the GE codes in the booklet. I also checked the Radio Shack site to see if anything was mentioned in the Manufacturer's codes there.

I tried the "search" but was not successful (I may have mis-keyed something, but I tried to do it right (-: ).

Any assitance would be appreciated.

I just picked up the Radio Shack 1994 remote today so i can't compare yet. But, my problem was, I already owned the 8080 AV/8 and there were a few things that couldnt do. Then I bought an learning 8800IQ, was able to do everything but I hated the volume controls, the key feel was terrible compared to the 8080. Now Im going to try the 1994 model and return the 8800 if it works out. (I never use the timed macros) so i dont need the display/clock. But i'll definitely put the Radio Shack to it's test. I have the following devices (hopefully the 8080 codes will work, otherwise im screwed until i can call support on monday).

Onkyo Receiver, Hughes Digital VCR, Hughes DSS, JVC VCR, Kenwood CD changer, Panasonic TV. i'll come bacj in a few days and post my findings..

Could anyone tell me if the RS 15-1994 controls the X-10 thu IR or RF?

The remote control ONLY emits IR! In order to utilize the X-10 control, you MUST purchase an IR543 to recieve the IR commands. The IR543 responds to infrared signals from the infrared remote, then transmits equivalent X10 commands to X10 compatible receivers in your home. You can only control 16 devices on 1 house code.

You can purchase the IR543 a.k.a. 4040 from several places, here are a couple of links:

Worthington Distribution($20.39):

[Link: worthdist.com]

Smarthome.com($29.99):

Hope you find this helpful!

Sincerely,

Scott

Previous poster comment:

5) "special suede-like finish". Are you sure? Have you ever actually felt real suede? Sounds like
worthless Hype to me. I sorta like the fact that fingerprints don't show on the lightly textured finish of
my Cinema7 and it doesn't slip out of my hand.

Just a note to say that in the latest RS sale catalog they describe the 15-1994 remote as having a 'suede-like' finish.

Kinda warm and fuzzy, it is.

Will this remote operate WebTV? I would like to use Aux.2 if possible.

Sony STR-DB930 owners: How did you get the surround fields (DSP modes) to work on the RS remote? Any other "tricks" specific to the STR-DB930 will also be appreciated.
