Sandy,

*Excellent*. Thank you very much. How can I find out the advanced codes? I know this has to have been asked somewhere else but the thread on this is *so* long.. :)

After filling up all the available learn memory, I found that if I deleted some of the keys that I wasn't ever using that I was then able to learn some more. This remote is awesome, it does 90% of what my RC5000 can do!!

Just got mine today it was the only one they had ...
on sale for $29.95 love the way it feels and the backlite is great, I have a 1918 that's going to be replaced by the 1994. I have had several diferent RC remotes on was $100 bucks or so can't remember what model # but it was huge controlled 8 devices and had a clock with the day and time in the display and would learn, it just plain wore out. I read the message thread and started looking for one....
I had to learn a few functions from the old 1918 haven't tried my Sony receiver yet, I'll use it for basic functions only.
Thanks for your help I will continue to return and see whats new and inproved about this remote

The manual describes the VCR device type as being able to control digital audio tape (DAT) players. However, no codes for any DAT players are given. Does anyone know where I can find these? I've checked the One-for-all site and the Radio Shack site but no luck.
I'm looking for a code for the Sony R-300 DAT player.

Does the 1994 have a shift button like the 1918 did-does I can't tell there were a few functions that I can't access from the 1994 that I had to teach from the 1918. So far so good still trying to learn what buttons do what ...

You can use the "P" button as a shift key.

What a fantastic group of people this forum has. I just finished reading this entire thread and printing out many helpful pages. I got my 1994 yesterday and have had no problem with all my components except my Kenwood 309 AV receiver. Question: before I can "learn" functions to keys on the remote don't I the specific valid device code for my receiver? As Im sure you other Kenwood 309 owners have discovered...the three codes listed in the instructions get "accepted" but do not work the unit. I read all the device code suggestions at this website, various personal and support webpages and finally called Radio Shack support and got several more. Tried them all...and none will be accepted by the
remote, which I'm also sure you discovered. I also tried the remote's "search" function twice with no success. Some of you seem to have found a
solution. The customer service rep at RS indicated that I may have to return it for a "telephone upgradable" model. But I love this remote so far and would like to know how you got it to run your Kenwood. I only need to program several buttons to control basic functions like power, volume (I am aware of the 'punchthrough" issue) and input (aware of this issue too..figured I would program the 4 "SmartKeys") But, before I can do any of this..don't I need the specific valid device code for my receiver? The rep at Radio Shack said I would and that's why I needed to buy another model.
Any help would be appreciated...I am off to read more of this great site-
Thanks-John

Thanks so much to the folks on this board..especially Greg and Chris. I now have my 1994 up and running everything including my Kenwood 309.
It was the last piece to add to my new home theater and it was great to sit back tonight, ONE remote in my hand and watch a couple favorite films. Here is a link to my Home Theater Page if anybody would like to stop by, see my new rig and say hi:

Thank you so so much for this thread. I just bought a Marantz SR-7000 to go with a Sony TV, Sony DVD, Yamaha CD, JVC VCR, and full Paradigm surround system with subwoofer. The Marantz came with a fancy universal remote with LCD but it was so confusing and unuser friendly plus it wasn't backlit. I bought this 1994 and it CONTROLS THEM ALL! Perfect!

I wanted to add some further detail of my personal experience with the RS 15-1994. Here is my equipment:

Marantz SR-7000 A/V Receiver
Sony 530 DVD

Sony TV

Let me give you an idea of what you can do with this remote. I am amazed, perhaps many of you have done more with it but for those wondering here is a practical example.

I have a Marantz SR-7000 A/V Receiver, Sony TV, Sony DVD, JVC VCR, General Instruments Cable Box, and Yahama CD Changer. Everything is linked to the TV through the Receiver it must be on.

Here is how I set up my remote.

I mapped AUX 1 to my Marantz via a Marantz receiver code, NOT amplifer. It gave me all functionality except for the Left/Right/Up/Down/Select keys and keys to change to a particular source. I used the learning ability of the 15-1994 to get those keys working. No problems, full functionality.

I remapped AUX 2 to be a "VCR" key and then mapped it to my Sony DVD player. No problems with the code but I had to learn fast forward and rewind to the 15-1994 since the default FF/RW was actually only the "2x's speed" mode which is too slow. Beautiful now.

My JVC VCR mapped perfectly to the VCR button with a code as did my Sony TV to the TV button. No changes needed.

My Yahama CD Changer mapped to the CD button with a code again with no changes need.

My General Instruments Cable Box mapped to my CBL/SAT button with a code and I needed to add only the "INFO" button from the orginal remote which was not preset in the factory setup of the 15-1994 GI code. I did this through the learning function and it works perfectly.

At this point I added the "extras" to my remote. I programmed the 1s button with a macro which turns the TV/VCR/AMP/DVD/CBL all on or off and if on then it selects the AMP for my button pressing pleasure. I intend to add more macros to further customize the start for purpose viewing, ie. DVD only leaving the VCR etc. off.

I also used the meathod published in this forum to use macros to create a bypass that allows the Volume +/- and Mute keys in the AUX1/AUX2/VCR/CD/CBL modes to all control AUX1 (ie. my Marantz SR-7000 AMP) so no matter what source I am using it effects on the master volume control. The only exception to this I left was when I was in the TV mode so if I am watching TV only with everything else off I can control the internal speaker in the TV. Incredibly useful.

Needless to say this remote is incredible. When I woke up today I had 6 remotes and intended to purchase a $100+ remote to replace them. By sheer luck I stumbled over a post in a home theatre USENET group which linked here to RemoteCentral where I discoverd this remote, called a Radio Shack and bam I had a remote for $29.99 that did it all and looks cool and is backlit to boot. With about 1 1/2 hours of work I have everything working like a dream customized just the way I want it. Thanks to the people who are present on the internet to share deals like this with the rest of us, I don't even think Radio Shack knows what they are selling because they sure don't promote this remote for what it really is.

Thanks again! Buy it.

Hey! Just wondering if anyone is having the same problem as I am. I purchased a'94 about a month ago. Specifically, the two buttons for Channel and Volume are the same, but CH+, CH-, VOL+ all take just a slight push to engage. The VOL- usually takes a fairly hard push to engage and keep engaged. And it got worse. I took it back and exchanged it. Same thing. Possible faulty production run? Anyone else having mechanical probs like this on these buttons? Let me know pls. Thx.

John, I love your picture of The World's Smallest Home Theater. I had to do a double-take on that one. :)
