Cindy,

Use advanced code 244 within manuf. code 0160 to switch to DVD input on AVR-3300. You can place it on the #3 key as it should be empty. I will email you all AVR-3300 advanced codes privately.

Regarding your power on problem, when the receiver is first turned it initializes the processor. This causes several seconds of a muted condition. Please wait for this initialization to finish before entering other commands.
Also, when you hit the Tape Monitor button on the 15-1994 remote (#6 key) you effectively mute the receiver. You need to hit it again to unmute it.
Feel free to email me with any other AVR-3300 or 15-1994 questions and I'll try to help.

GregoriusM and all others out there with "volume lock" problems: Go to page 2 of this thread, scroll down to "Jack's 12/19/99" post and follow his instructions for the 'virtual volume lock'. It is simple and works great. (Jack, if your still with us: Thanks alot!)

Dennis: I have done that for my CD player and it doesn't work. The mute and vol up do nothing and the volume down brings up a LINE LEVEL screen on the CD player that allows you to take the CD output from 0db down to -20 db and then the VOL+ will take it back up. But no receiver control, not even the muting.

Still hope someone can help. Sony CDP-CE535 5-CD changer.

I've read this entire thread...AMAZING! Lots of good tips! However,I still can not find a code that will allow me to turn on/off [or change]the soundfields on a Sony 333ES receiver. The commands are not learnable due to the "unique" Sony remote that comes with the receiver. Can anyone help?
THANKS!

Hey, Captain. Can I have your email address to exchange 1994 programming info for the 333ES. I'd like to know what all you have programmed so far. The equalizer? center and rear volume? etc.

Mine is [email protected]

Also, send me a list of the rest of your equipment. See my posts above about my tape deck and cd player.

Thanks!

Gregorius,
Sorry, but other than doing the "virtual volume lock" [really cool!] I haven't found any other code that works on the 333ES other than one that switches the FM stereo to mono!

GregoriusM, Don't know what you're doing wrong, however the programming has nothing to do with your CD player. It merely signals your receiver to alter the volume. Try it again. Perhaps you are using the wrong device code for the CD player. Good luck.

I found out the answer to my problem!!!

Jack's comments of 12/19/99 were:

Brian,
There is a way to accomplish a "virtual volume lock" that will ALWAYS control the RCVR volume. My RCVR is AUX2. I want to use "virtual volume lock" in the CBL/SAT, AUX1 (DVD), and VCR modes.

Here's my setup for "virtual volume lock":
CBL/SAT * P *--** 9*9*4* AUX2 VolUp * VolUp **
CBL/SAT * P *--** 9*9*4* AUX2 VolDn * VolDn **
CBL/SAT * P *--** 9*9*4* AUX2 Mute * Mute **

This would not work for my Sony CD or Sony Tape Deck.

BUT, YES!!! It does work for the Receiver and VCR, so I used the COPY routine instead of the "virtual volume lock" to accomplish my goal.

In other words, once I had my RECEIVER's Vol and Mute on AUX1, I just used this:

P*--** 994 AUX1* Vol+* CD* Vol+ **
P*--** 994 AUX1* Vol-* CD* Vol- **
P*--** 994 AUX1* Mute* CD* Mute **

Works beautifully!

LARRY (03/05/00): This might work for you and your DVD vol problem.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!!

-Greg

Dennis,
Yes, I'm still here. Good to know that the "virtual volume lock" and variations of it are helping others enjoy the RS-15-1994. Who would have thought that when this thread started way back when that it would have become so popular!

Keep up the good work, folks. Remember - your remote control is NOT the "end." It is the "means" by which we get to the end! In other words - take some time to enjoy your home theater! Watch a movie and quit dickering with your remote control!!! (smile)

Jack :)

Ok.. I've all but beat my head in. First I want to say that the remote control that comes with the Sony ES333 is the poorest design of anything I've ever seen!!!!

Now, all I want is to be able to push a button on my RS15-1994 and be able to get TV/SAT to come up on my receiver. Does anyone know how to do that???? It won't learn the signal from that ignorant Sony remote. If I get my RS15-1994 to do this one thing I'm allll set.

Assuming that the device code for your Sony receiver is 0158, the advanced funcion code to select TV/SAT is 384. I programmed this code on to Button 3 of my One for All Cinema 7 remote. The RS15-1994 uses the same codes.

To program the advanced function code:

1. Press the desired device key, e.g.: AUX1 for the receiver using the RS15-1994.

2. Hold the "P" button until the remote blinks twice.

3. Tap the "P" button followd by the 3-digit code for your desired function, e.g.: 384

4. Press the button that you want to assign to this function, e.g.: 3.

Hope this helps,
Sandy Seidler

Subject: Correction to my Previos message
Statement 2 should read:

2. Hold the "P" button until the remote blinks twice. Then press 994.

Sorry for the error,
