Well i added my 700 DVDs and everything worked first go - both the DMX-3000 software and the MX-3000. What a breath of fresh air when everything just works.

This DMX-3000 absolutely rocks!...My partner can't let go of it now. Its like rediscovering your collection again.

Now on the issue of using the DMX-3000 to browse thru my LD collection i wonder if the following will work.

1) Add DVDs to DMX-3000 and base MX file as per usual process.
2) Catalog Laserdiscs using a seperate DVD Profiler file
3) Export this LD DVD Profiler file into the DMX3000 program and export the program into a new base LD MX Editor file that is different to the base MX Editor file in which the DVDs were created.
4) Open the base DVD MX Editor file with the DVDs and then import the DMX-3000 device from the LD MX Editor file.
5) Hence there will now be a combined DVD/LD MX Editor file with 2 DMX-3000 devices one for DVD and one for LD. 2 References to DMX3000 Main Page can then be made one to browse LDs and one to browse DVDs.

The above is probably a long shot...but before i try it i wonder if anyone can find a hole in the above logic. (ps i know that not all Lds are on DVD)

Couldnt you just use a new location.
Ie if you have 3 DVD juke boxes you may call them DVD1 DVD 2 DVD3 which DMX then creates for you in the Remote. If you just list the LD's as normal in DVD profiler but used a location called Laserdisk and a dummy slot number. Wouldnt you end up with a device on your remote called laserdisk with the LD's listed in it.

Mark

I'm almost certain that the DMX software will only function correctly with one DMX device. It is set up to modify that single device whose device name is set and unchangeable. Pretty sure you'll get a an error trying to modify an rcc with more than one DMX device. That said. If you started with the LD disks in a separate Proflle file, imported, changed the name of the device, then added a second DMX header for all your DVDs then you might get it to work. However you'd have to edit every entry on ever page (and there will be many of them) that DMX created that references to page jumps within the changed DMX Device. And of course you would never be able to edit or add to that changed device again.

Better to view your movies as a single movie database instead of relating movies to a particular device and trying to isolate multiple databases. You could use the Description and Location capabilities of Profiler to set apart your LDs. The location capability will allow custom automation of the Movie start process by jumping to a 'Pause Screen' with an OK button on it at the end of the after macro that says in effect "Load the Appropriate LaserDisc in the player and press OK". The OK button would then execute the play function of the LD player and jump to the appropriate movie control screen.

Yes, DMX only supports one database but for more than one reason. DVD Profiler only supports a single listing also, so there is no easy way to maintain two seperate collections of movies, without backing up and restoring seperate collections all the time.

Even after you go through the trouble of creating two seperate DVD Profiler collections, the MX-Editor doesnt allow you to import multiple devices and maintain macro aliases across the imported devices. Meaning that even though all the pages will be imported all the macros will be lost, so you would have to create them all manually again.

All that to say this, DMX-3000 doesnt support multiple listings because neither of the other two pieces of software work effectively for it either.

However, the way Lane describes would be the recommended method of keeping your LD's listed on the remote. This way it wouldnt really matter which format you had the movie in, you would just browse one complete listing of movies, and upon selecting one, would be instructed to insert the proper "DVD" or "LaserDisc" depending upon the Location used in Profiler.

If you need more assistance setting this up please email me.

Lane/ Bracken/Mark

Thanks for the feedback. I will follow your advice with regards to cataloguing my LD collection.

I actually scanned thru all 900 posts looking for whether this software had been used with a DVD server (HTPC) where the movies have been ripped to a hard drive. The names of Ash Sharman and Paul H came up but the posts were inconclusive as to whether this had worked or not. (I will try emailing them directly tonight)

My partner is so impressed with this DMX3000 that she is hinting very strongly that i buy a DVD Changer. However before i start doing research on the availability of code free PAL/NTSC DVD Changers , i was wondering had this software being tried on a HTPC and whether it was successful or not.

Bracken
As a suggestion for future software releases im wondering if you would consider developing a FAQ/troubleshooting document, that can a)be included with your software b) or be made available on the tripleb home page . (similar to your quick start guide). This would make it easier than scanning thru these 900 posts and hopefully would make it easier for you in the long run.

Once again i would like to thank you for this software. It is truly awesome! I hope URC acknowledge what you are doing for the MX-3000 community.

On the issue of CD functionality for those who are starting to build their cd collection on music collector i found this post from billmradio on their forums regarding importing your cd library from your itunes library. I've tried it with 40 discs and it works.

[Link: collectorz.com]

"I know i've read in the past how people wished there was a way to import their itunes info into music collector, because they feel that since they already entered in the info in itunes they don't want to do it again in music collector. Well although you can't technically, i figured out a way to do it that will save you some time. Theres about 10 steps below, it may seem like a lot, but trust me, it's not that bad.

1) Highlight and copy your library in iTunes
2) Paste the library into an excel spread sheet
3) remove all the columns leaving only artist name and album name
4) remove all the "repeats"
5)Highlight and copy what is left
6)Open notepad and paste the contents
7) choose file save as, make sure the file type is TXT and the encoding is ANSI
8) open music collector, click the "add album by searching info sources
9) hit the import button and browse for the TXT file you saved in step 7
10) in the delimiter select "tab" and for the text qualifier select "none", hit ok and all your artist and albums will appear in the search que

It would have taken me a few days to reenter all my iTunes info, but by doing this it only took me 1 night. Its really simple. I hope this helped some people! "

Yes, the software is written so you can use multiple changers and of any make/model.

Thus the reason for the Location field used in DVD profiler. If you want another changer, simply give it another Location. ex. "Sony1" & "Sony2". Now in your BaseRCC you will need two controls pages, named to match the Locations. "Sony1" and "Sony2". Each with the correct IR codes to control the seperate changers.

Thats it, DMX-3000 will send the appropriate controls to the appropriate changer based on the Location Information.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Best Regards,

I talk with Triple B regularly, and believe me, he is eager to get things rolling again on DMX.

He hasn't given up on you. I happen to know that he got involved with a project that turned out to be more lengthy than originally anticipated. He then suffered a catastrophic data loss in the same week he suffered a personal tragedy. He will be able to recover all of the DMX work, but that process is ongoing.

I can't really say more--it's not my place. Let's just say I wish him well and support him as he gets things in his life back to normal.

Sincerely,

Dale
