I've found that since I started using DMX3000, I really only need the basic playback features of my 985. In my personal template (Gravity.rcc) I only surface the keypad, the transport, the "title" buttons, and the Display button. I have never once found myself needing any other buttons since I started using DMX.

Granted, your mileage may vary. Some people want every last control on screen. Some people only want the ones they use every day. Me, I tend to go for the latter, but then secret away the rest of the controls on some screen that no casual user would ever find.

Does DMX have the option to show larger (fewer) screen shots per page?

It doesn't, but I've always figured this is probably a limitation of logisitics.

Because all DVD covers are in "portrait" mode and the screen of the 3000 is in "landscape" mode, 8 ends up being the optimal number per page. Since the shape of a DVD cover is "fixed," there's simply no logical way to arrange 7, 6, or 5 cover images. You can't go to 4 without turning the images sideways. You could go to 3 with a considerable amount of wasted space on the top and bottom, but 2 actually makes much better use of the space.

If you went with 2 or 3, the number of pages required in the remote would be vastly larger than DMX currently requires. And then it would take eons to scroll through a list of 300-400 dvds.

So, while your concern is valid, the solution would probably cause more headaches that the squinting that might be necessary by those of us with middle-aged eyes.

In the beginning there was an option to show 8 (as you see now) or 2 side by side. These are the only two numbers which layout well on the screen. Since you either get 1 row, or 2 rows. When you go to two rows, you fit 8 per screen. There is no configuration which fits anything in between unless you turn the remote sideways and I felt that to be a bad solution also.

Due to the huge image size increase required for the cover art in the 2 per screen layout, it was dropped in favor of the 8 per screen. With 8 per screen, you can hold well over 1000+ movies in a typical remote configuration. With 2 per screen it was limited to a few hundred max. Since this wouldnt even allow for one full 400 disc changer, it was removed from the software.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Good point! I was thinking of all the options, soundfield, etc. This will make my job a lot easier.
Thanks.

How is DMX-3000 licensed? I have 2 systems that I use to program one remote. Is the code that I submit at the time of purchase for the remote or for the workstation?

Also, what is the easiest way to update the remote? Do I always use the non DMX titled file or do i continue building off the dmx file?

The DMX-3000 license it per workstation, unfortunately there is no way to link the software to an individual remote as this would be the ideal situation.

You are correct, all changes should be made to the non DMX file. No changes should be made to the DMX file, not because you cant, but because that file is overwritten everytime you run DMX-3000.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Your Quick Start Guide States:
Each disc that is in the changer will need a "Location" and "Slot" entered in DVD Profiler.
(Location is a brief description of the Changer, ie. Model Number, Brand, or something as simple as 1, 2, 3)
(Slot is the slot that disc resides at in the Changer)
How do I enter location and slot in DVD Profiler???

I seem to be having a problem with my DMX-3000. When I select a movie from the touch screen, a movie with the wrong slot number starts playing. The first two numbers are always 11 followed by the correct third number. (359 comes up 119 - 256 comes up 116) That is the correct sequence for the before and after buttons. I have a Sony DVP-CX777ES.

Do you still have the +10 and +100 buttons on your control page? The Sony does not require those two buttons. Just delete them and that should take care of your problem.

I'm awaiting delivery of my MX3000 and am considering purchasing this software. I don't have a mega changer, but it would be helpful to have my DVD collection catalogued on the remote unit.

My only question is (and please excuse me if this has been asked before - I'm new to this forum, and am slowly wading through the 800 + responses in this thread), how much memory does this use. I have approximately 900 DVDs in my collection. Will this 'fit' in my remote?

Thanks.
But I digress......

if your not gonna get a mega changer then there isnt a reason to get the software..seeing as it was designed just for mega changers... if all you want is to catalog your dvds then just downl load the dvd profiler software.. it should be more then enough... and currently i believe that the mx-3000 can store several thousand dvds in the dmx-3000 format...
