The DMX-3000 license it per workstation, unfortunately there is no way to link the software to an individual remote as this would be the ideal situation.
You are correct, all changes should be made to the non DMX file. No changes should be made to the DMX file, not because you cant, but because that file is overwritten everytime you run DMX-3000.
