Thanks to everyone for their contribution to this thread.
I am compiling a list of help topics (a FAQ of sorts) on this remote. I'll post as soon as I get it done. soon!
My Question:
Can I create a macro on S1 that uses extended codes?
For example I have a sony system. The TV, AMP, etc... have discrete on/off codes.
I want to have S1 execute an ALL/ON and S2 execute an ALL/OFF.
I have the discrete codes and I can test them by using the method ) and they work. I just can figure out a way to get them in a macro without assinging them to other keys and going that route.
Thanks for any help

Thank you Andre & everybody else who started and contributed to this thread. I purchased the 15-1994 couple of weeks ago and so far without spending too much time it is %90 programmed. This remote, amazingly even runs my 15 years old Beta VCR. Like many previous postings, I was getting ready to spend $150 or so on a good universal remote and here’s a $30 Remote that puts most of them to shame.

The list of my components that 15-1994 operates:

Sony TV
HK Receiver
Toshiba DVD
Sony Beta VCR
Sony VHS VCR

Thank you All again for all your help.

OK I figured it out.
So if you want to program your pwr button to (discretly) turn on the TV and AMP -Discretely so that it doesn't toggle the power button- do this.
I have a Sony TV and AMP
P** 9*9*5** PWR*
TV* P* 3*6*9*
AUX* 1*
TV* TV* / this is just a delay for sony tv's
TV* P* 2*4*3*
AUX*

I'll add this to the faq.

I bought one of these 2 days ago and it has replaced 5 remotes for me:

Sony Satellite Directv
Kenwood VR-309 audio receiver
Sony 35" TV
Sony SLV-575 VCR
RCA DVD

For the Sony TV, VCR, Satellite and RCA DVD all I had to do was enter the device code and I had all the functions I needed. In ALL cases the layout of this remote not only consolidated everthing but was also easier to use because of the backlighting and ergonomic layout. I have decided not to pursue the SL-9000 or even the MX-1000 because this remote has achieved (for me) what all the others are striving for. I did have to teach the codes manually for the Kenwood VR-309 but when I was done I had a much easier to use remote than the Kenwood remote. For example if I press 1, the receiver goes to VCR1, 2=VCR2, 3=DVD, 4=CD, 5=tuner, 6=tape and 7=aux. No more having to toggle through the audio and video selects (thanks above to the poster who told me how to do this)! My Dad was so impressed he is going to buy one. When I was in Radio Shack it took me 30 seconds to convince another customer that he should buy one (I was armed only with the knowledge in this forum at that point). He and I bought the last two in the store, I had to settle for the display model. For my Sony TV even the mute, menu, favorite channel and display keys were pre-programmed. For macros I will probably add the extended code for device off (as opposed to toggle) so I can have a power off key. It would still be interesting to see if upgrades or existing codes will handle the VR-309 but at point I don't need them.

After reading this thread and the related sites mentioned, I went and bought the RS 15-1994 remote. Wow, this is great. I had it learn every key I wanted from the new DishPlayer remote style, but I ran out of memory. I tried the 980 to clear memory first, and was able to learn about 32 keys.

My question is, has anyone contacted Radio Shack tech support to see if this remote can be updated with the "1005" remote code for the DishPlayer? Then I can use the advanced codes for most of the keys instead of having to "learn" the keys. This would allow me to use the learning for other non supported devices.

I was told that the "1005" code is now available for another Universal Electronics remote.

After reading every post in this thread it appears that there is no code known for the Kenwood VR receiver series. Is that true?

Also, does anyone have a code for the Kenwood CD-203?

Any help would be appreciated.

Greg,
How did you map your volume keys for your Receiver?

To Russ S.

You said: "I would recommend to everyone that wants more detailed information on how to program the RS to thoroughly read the One For All forum. They have put the Cinema 7 through it's paces and almost everything they can done on the Cinema 7 can be done on the 15-1994." Can you post the URL for that? I've looked at the OneForAll web site, and can't seem to find anything that specifically says Cinema 7.

Robert Crawford: Check out Jack's post above, dated 12/19/99. It's a program for a virtual volume lock and it works GREAT! And, it's simple. Remember to do it for each device.

For those of you looking to program in a Sony DVD player (I know at least rich on 1/9 had a problem), I found a way around the limitation. You can program the VCR button to operate the Sony DVD using the 0533 code, but not the Aux1 or Aux2 buttons. Therefore, using the remap suggestions provided by others here, I remapped the VCR key to the AUX2 key (essentially telling the remote I had two VCR's) and then entered the 0533 code to the new AUX2. Worked like a charm, and it now controls my Sony 7700 DVD player great! This remote rocks, and for $30, I can't believe I was ever looking elsewhere. I still have yet to program the advanced functions, but all in all, it's wonderful.

PS. If anyone has the Advanced codes for the Panasonic TV (Code 0250), please pass them on to me. Thanks!

Finally got through to Tandy CS. The code for TIVO is 0618 but the 15-1994 does not have this code and RS will not update it, even if sent in. The rep suggested that I trade it in for a model upgradable by phone. I requested any advanced codes just in case they may work.

I like the remote but I ran out of memory after learning the TIVO keys and a small number of others. I've tried all the tricks mentioned in this group including several punts via the 9-8-0 reset. I may try one more restart but if I can't find a more efficient way to program my TIVO, I may have to spring for a Pronto.

Thanks for all the input on this forum.

Here, I try to summarize the programming details of the RS 15-1994. Please feel free to add if I have missed any important instructions.
Thanks to Andre for starting the thread and everyone else for their spirit of contribution.

On how to program a macro
Here is my macro for the Power button to power on all of my equipment and set it up to watch cbl/sat:
SETUP *--** 9*9*5** POWER * RCVR * POWER * 7 * TV * POWER * VCR * POWER * CBL/SAT * POWER * SETUP *--**

Programming advanced codes
1) DEVICE
2) P** (hold until 2 blinks)
3) 994 (light blinks twice)
4) P* (light blinks once)!
5) 3-digit code
6) Key you are assigning to

Somewhere in this thread there was a posting explaining that the code to erase a device key was 992. And, clearing a button was 994. I comes from an explanation from One For All, and it was also posted by [Link: mandala.com].
Anyway, the sequence seems to be:

Clearing A Device Key
1. Press the key you want to clear.
2. Press the P key until the LED blinks twice.
3. Press 9 9 2.
4. Press the device key twice.

Clearing a Button
1. Press the device key the button is assigned to.
2. Press the P key until the LED blinks twice.
3. Press 9 9 4.
4. Press the button you want to clear twice.

Re: erasing a macro.
Press "P" and hold down until it flashes twice. Type in the macro learning code (995). Punch the button where the macro to be erased is stored (or if a stacked macro, press P, then the macro button). Then press and hold down "P" until remote double flashes. This comes from the Radio Shack online manual mentioned in the first post above.

USING TWO OR MORE SIMILAR DEVICES

Here's the Gist of it:
1. Press SET UP until the red indicator light blinks twice.

2. Press 9 - 9 - 2. The red indicator light blinks twice. Press the key for the type of device you have two of, then the unused device key you want to convert. The red indicator light blinks twice again.

For example, to convert an unused CBL key into a second VCR key:
SET UP - 9 - 9 - 2 - VCR - CBL

To change the CBL key back to its original function, use the following sequence of keystrokes.
SET UP - 9 - 9 - 2 - CBL – CBL

by Russ S
Punch Thru
The first way is to "remap" the volume and mute buttons in the DVD mode to actually send the Receiver volume commands when they are pressed. Here are the key presses to accomplish this:
DVD(Aux2)* Setup*--** 9* 9* 4** Rcvr(Aux1)* Vol Up* Vol Up--**
then do:
DVD(Aux2)* Setup*--** 9* 9* 4** Rcvr(Aux1)* Vol Down* Vol Down--**
then do:
DVD(Aux2)* Setup*--** 9* 9* 4** Rcvr(Aux1)* Mute* Mute--**

So if you want to program your pwr button to (discretly) turn on the TV and AMP -Discretely so that it doesn't toggle the power button- do this.
I have a Sony TV and AMP
P** 9*9*5** PWR*
TV* P* 3*6*9*
AUX* 1*
TV* TV* / this is just a delay for sony tv's
TV* P* 2*4*3*
AUX*

I would like to program the SCAN button to perform a different function via a macro. When I press
P** 995 then press the SCAN key, I get one long blink, which brings the process to a halt.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks,
Matt

I have not been able to program the scan button either. It is used for that favorite channel assignment. May be that has something to do with it.
Incidentally I also have trouble with programming 1 and 3. All others work fine!

I tried to create the macro for the Power button to power on all of my equipment but after I have completed the macro, the power button still retains its old function within each device. I did the following for the macro:

1) press and hold P until the unit blinks twice
2) press 995
3) press power
4) press vcr
5) press power
6) press tv
7) press power
8) press cable
9) press power
10) press and hold P until the unit blinks twice

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?
