Aaron,

I downloaded your original ccf, back when it was one of the few color ccfs available. It was quite popular. Now that you have something available for the 9200, I'd really enjoy taking a look at it. Especially since it looks to be even better. I hope you decide to upload it.

Having said that, I really can't understand what's going on with this thread. If you don't want to or haven't decided to upload it, fine - but what was the point of proclaiming it's virtues in the first place? I also think that downgrading Dales efforts in order to extol your own was at best less than gentlemanly.

In short, I think that until such time as it's made available, it's nothing more than vaporware, and doesn't merit any serious discussion.

similar to "tobaz's dopest jive-talkingest ccf ever"?

oops, I mentioned his name...I just can't remember what that means..either I say it a few more times in a mirror and he appears and kills me like candyman or I repeat it a few more times and he appears to annoy the sh!t out of me like beetlejuice

I'm assuming the latter based on his already truly intriguing commentary

which do you think? ;-)

Dale,

I took a gander at your ccf again and replied to your comments below.

...about EasyTheater:

The hard cursor keys in EasyTheater are not "wasted
on navigation." In the hard-key version, you use
the cursor keys to navigate the menus, but when
you get to the activity you select, the hard keys
are dedicated to that activity. In any case, you
can always choose to use the soft-key version.

I'm going by your 6000 version, maybe you changed this in the 9200 version. I consider a button that jumps to another device, "navigation". Your hard keys do nothing but jump to another device with a pop up "menu" at which point you have to use the screen anyway. The point of hard buttons to me, is to avoid using the screen as much as possible.

You do not need to "create dozens of panels" to
add activities to EasyTheater. I did that for
you. On the soft-key version, 24 panels are used
for navgation. Very few people will need to add
additional panels to accommodate all of their
devices. But if they do, they'll only need to
add one or two--not dozens. The hard-key version
uses a lot more panels, and it's not for the TSR
newbie. I've posted already that even though the
benefit of being able to hard-key your way through
the interface is great, I doubt that many people
will bother. I bothered because I want to use
this feature myself. However, even though the
hard-key version has many more panels, you still
don't need to create them. They're already there
for you. (And even in the hard-key version, you
can still use the soft-key navigation scheme if
you don't want to use the hard keys.)

I haven't seen your soft-key version. I'm going by your hard-key version. If a person has more devices than you they DO have to add possibly dozens of devices if they want to maintain your interface. Since these are DEVICES and not just panels, they also have to set up the hard button properties for each device since they're used for navigation.

You are not limited to four sources in EasyTheater.
In fact, you can have as many as you want. The
default configuration demonstrates this with six
sources under the Watch menu. Instructions are
right there on the screen: In the soft key version,
touch the menu icon to see more sources. In the
hard-key version, touch the menu icon or just
scroll down.

You ARE limited to four sources on a panel. Plus there is no visual indication that there are more sources. I've dealt with "users" before and trust me when I say that they don't bother reading fine print at the bottom of screens.

The only "tiny button screens" on EasyTheater
are the ones designed to be used rarely, if ever.
All activities that support keypads offer full-screen
keypads that use very large buttons.

I don't know about you, but setting the timer on my VCR , jumping to specific Title/chapters on a DVD and using my TV's menu are NOT rare activities. I like to use the keypad when setting timed recordings. It's faster. The only way to do that on yours is by jumping back and forth between panels OR using the tiny button screen. I couldn't find a way to jump to a specific chapter on a DVD on yours without using the tiny button screen. The same goes for using the TV menu.

Going by my examples above, I don't think I made any "falsehoods" about your ccf as you claimed.

With the attitude of some of the people on this forum, I'm beginning not to care.

Aaron,

My apologies... I had your post confused with the one regarding Dale Crawford's Easy Theatre. You are correct, this is the first time you've posted such a thread.

We engineers hate marketing mumbo-jumbo. When we see something cool, we want to get hands-on. My intent was not to ruffle your feathers, only to get more information.

Simply put, there's alot of hype going about CCFs these days... Everyone has their own flavor.

With regard to my "tease" comment, simply put:

I think your screen shots look really, really cool and I'd like to see how you generated it. Was it all done by hand?

I could not find your latest CCF and I'd love to get my hands on the CCF or the program that generated it.

Why do I ask? I've been dreaming up a concept for an add-in for Tonto that would let you apply "skins" to a CCF. A designer simply supplies the framework and someone else can re-use "skins" or plug-in elements such as scrollbars. (Your's are ideal candidates).

With regard to your comments about NO CCFs from me on this site...

Do a search for 'Lyndel' under the Pronto Files section. You will get 2 hits. One is a program and the second is a CCF generated by said program.

I'm a personal user/engineer by trade (not associated with a business) and have in the past made on-the-fly augmentations to SNL for others on the site as Leo has been busy doing other things.

Like yourself, I'm interested in tools/CCFs that will make all our lives easier.

You put in quite a bit of work and yes, you deserve praise for your efforts. In the end, I was envious of your graphics and would somehow like to find a way to marry your graphics with my "skins" concept.

Regards,
Lyndel

I really thought for a long while about posting in this thread, you see even though I have been coming to Remotecentral for a long time I have never posted a CCF. I am not a creative person and so I "borrow" everything that I use (especially from Dale)and even though I spend many hours (far too many) tweaking and fixing it, the resultant file is still really not mine. I certainly wish that I had the abilities of some of the people that really make these remotes the works of art that they are. That said I feel that the spirit that makes this place what it is, has come under attack in this thread and the one started by Tobaz, this whole website is built on sharing and helping one another. I am in no position to brag about my CCF but if I were I would certainly upload it, if we have to worry about who will steal it or tease people with pictures and then only think about sharing it, perhaps it is better not to brag at all. I have not seen Tobaz's file and pictures of Aaron's look pretty impressive, but I have seen much of Dale's hard work over the years and appropriated a good portion of it and never once have I ever seen him brag about how great his designs are or make any negative comments about the work of others. Perhaps I am getting too serious, after it is only a stupid remote control, but I think these threads are becoming too serious, perhaps its time to take a deep breath and step back a minute.

For what it's worth

The idea of Skins is something I was thinking of when I decided to use a computer type interface. They lend themselves to "Skinning" better. I also used standard components and positions in making the "Applications", with the idea of maybe making a program to generate a text file that Oliver's program could then compile. The Calendar is definately one I'm planning on writing a program for. Moving over 400 buttons one position to the right is NOT something I want to do again. Although, now that Tonto is available, it wouldn't be quite as bad since it supports mult-select.

I will be adding a 'Theme Master' to Tonto in upcoming releases. It will allow you to design 'theme panels' that at the click of a button will perform global icon and color replacements. Used in conjunction with the new 'Tab Master', it should be possible to automate the construction of more complex and changable CCF's in less time.
