During this severe downtime, I'm thinking about getting serious about videos, Not so much youtube stuff but maybe little 30-45second updates on our FB page. I've asked this before but its been a few years. I see so many youtubers using a DSLR for their videos, I have a Nikon I can use. I also have a Gimbal for my Iphone 11pro I can use.

I want high quality videos, I do not want it to look like it was shot on a phone, I also want good audio. Can anyone give me some ideas of Apps/Phone Mics I can use to get some decent quality videos?

Also, What are some good easy to use editing programs I can start to learn? I obviously dont need Final Cut Pro level, Maybe something to watermark my logo on the bottom, some text and basic effects.

I finished my van build so I want to make a video on that to practice!

I edit most of my kayaking videos with iMovie. It's fairly easy, and actually has quite a few features, for what it is. I've been out of the television production game for so long that I wouldn't know where to start on camera recommendations, though. I have found that you can do some pretty good multi purpose shooting with a GoPro, but you really do have to pony up for the black, rather than white or silver. However, GoPro lacking a physical zoom really sucks.

Slight derail - sorry. I'm about to buy a GoPro and was going to get the Hero silver. Plan to use it to record trolling/fishing with this: https://trollpro.com/ Will of course also use it for general leisure video etc.. I don't plan to do much heavy editing. So what do I give up by not going with the Hero black?

Where did you get a Nikon?  Don't overlook your phone for video, they do quite well with shooting very nice video for the purpose you are looking for.  Are you planning to edit music over it or are you looking to narrate the video?

Apple's Final Cut Pro is actually free for a trial period of 3 months. All due to the Covid-19.

If I was into doing videos, I would try that just for the heck of it.

Filmic Pro App for iPhone  $13.  It's nothing short of incredible, hence the $13 price tag.

Here's a great Youtube Channel with tutorials for FilmicPro.

Do a Youtube search for Iphoneographers

You'll be amazed at the quality of films ou can make with an iPhone.

Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro for editing.

I personally use Premiere because I'm on the monthly plan...and Premiere it still the "Standard" for video editing, but for Applecentric folks, FinalCutPro is a great choice as well.

They both have a learning curve, but they're not too difficult.

ShotCut

Totally Free.

Open Source.

Cross-platform.

Incredibly powerful and capable.

Not overly resource-hungry. (I'm using it on a 9-year-old PC in my workshop)

Easy to use/learn (even for someone with severe ADHD).

Great support forum/network.

I actually encountered a fault with encoding while using a particular effect and logged it on the forum, then within 12 hours the developer had a fix for it and was preparing it to go into the next update.

The black allows you to change the video capture from “wide angle,” which is what causes the “fish eye” effect. You used to be able to change it in the GoPro editing software, which sucked, and is now completely different. The black is the only model that allows you to set the field of view

I got into making videos a while back, starting with clips from trips I went on. At first, my videos didn't look too great, but I kept at it. I found this cool tool called Movavi that really helped me out. It's super easy to use, which was great for me because I was pretty new to all of this.

One thing I really like about Movavi is that it can also change picture formats. This was super helpful for making my video thumbnails look good and fit wherever I needed to post them. If you're looking for a simple way to make your videos better, you should definitely check out Movavi here.
