RTI has just announced a new line of four so-called "problem solvers" - basically, little widgets intended to solve specific issues that might crop up in a system.

First there's the ADA-1, a Dolby Digital to Analog downmixer that takes a coaxial or optical output and converts it to standard analog audio. The VDM-1x HDMI Downscaler with Downmixer is intended to multi-zone systems with both HD and 4K sources and displays, and either downscales or upscales video for compatibility, and downmixes Dolby Digital to stereo PCM. In an example of how long it takes to get from trade show floor to through your door, the RTI T2i - first announced nearly two years ago during CEDIA 2012 - is now shipping. The $499 remote offers a flush-mount 2.8" color touchscreen, backlit keypad (four with customizable keycaps), IR, RF and ZigBee communications, motion sensor, fully customizable interface and a sleek design. RTI is prepping for CEDIA 2014 this coming September in Denver, and in anticipation of that have announced a list of new products that they’ll be exhibiting.

Unfortunately, it’s difficult not to notice that this year’s new product lists look substantively the same as last year’s new product list. T3x, KX3, KX1, AD-16x, XP-4 – they were all on the 2013 news release, too. However, those products that were far from available back then, are hopefully now either already shipping, or will soon be. The WK2 water-resistant in-wall keypad hasn’t been officially announced before now, but was discreetly previewed at CEDIA 2013. Read more...
