So the issue is related to 3rd party hardware, and the unit that was shipped back was shipped to the wrong address and was the wrong item, and all this is Snaps issue how? I understand it frustrating that the unit isn't working 100% with Savant, but working with Snap helps correct this issue, and Gpaul has always followed through with any issue anyone on the forum has had. You also have only 2 units with an issue, on the same system, and also have other Snap DVRs working with no issues in the field. It sounds like you were a bit unfair to them. Just my opinion.

Rob will be the first to admit that much of what I do is well over his technical knowledge level.  From networking, to full blown automation.  Feel free to ask him.

It's not a Savant stream issue, I can assure you. The streams to Savant were one of the first things I pulled off and the drops continued to happen, from your app, not any third party gear.

As far as the network, yes it's complicated, but working 110%, the same gear we put in every system, the same gear I set up in every system.  I have 30+ of the competitors DVR's and NVR's in other systems, most integrated, some not.  All working flawlessly.  Keep in mind what fixed the problem, another brand DVR.  No network changes, no other gear changes, nothing.  An even swap!

As far as the shipping deal, not my area of the company.  The information I was given was from...... dun dun dun..... Rob.

Sounds like you don't like Rob...LOL

Well, don't tell him that;)

Seriously though, our company is run quite different than most.  We're all adults, we've all been doing this for over 15 years each, we all know what we're good at and what we're not.  We don't punch a clock, we start when we want, we leave when we want. There's no vacation, if we want a day off, we take it.  If we want a week off, we take that.  We know what needs to be done and when it needs to be done.  We razz each other daily, we compete with each other daily and we butt heads weekly.  It makes us all better.  It's a format of freedom most people couldn't handle.  It probably won't work forever if we keep growing like we have, about 300% this past year.

Our systems are self healing, rock solid stable once complete. We've learned over many years what products work and what ones are reliable.  We'll turn down a job before we put in a product that we know will cost us time and money as well as frustration for our clients down the road.  In this industry, reliability is almost extinct.  Our systems are about as close as is possible.  When we do go back to a job, 98% of the time it's to add stuff, not service it!

Jay/G. Paul,

We have an issue with a Snap DVR and a Savant system as well. Our problem is the stream will eventually stop displaying real time within Savant's app. We have a project with a doorbell trigger that switches the in-wall iPads to the front door and gate cameras. The homeowner has noticed the stream will eventually stop leaving a frozen image. It will take 5-10 mins or longer but they noticed it because when someone presses the doorbell while they aren't home all of the iPads will be displaying camera views for a long period of time. I haven't seen it in action and this hasn't been a high priority fix for us over the holidays but it is something I wanted to look into. I just assumed it was some sort of cache issue. The WPS app works fine 100% of the time and the Savant camera view will work if you leave the camera page and go back to it again.

I haven't checked our office camera DVR....

Jay, if you guys continue to grow, I don't think that model will work. Sorry! The more personalities will result in more conflicts and more resentments. We don't really bust balls regarding vacation/time off either but we ask for 2 weeks notice. I know this method is sort of self correcting because if someone isn't respectful of the schedule or does what he wants, they are likely not going to last. But as you mentioned, good installers are VERY difficult to find!

Drewski3000,

Thanks for your feedback. Let’s catch up after the holidays to confirm the issue and see how to solve it (I will email you direct). We will work with Savant since drivers for their system are written only by them but we have a great relationship with the Savant team and can coordinate to get any issues solved. Merry Xmas Eve -

How ya been Drew?

I agree it won't work forever but to clarify, that's only for the lead guys.  Helpers still punch a clock, but are given a pretty long leash to learn and grow.....unless they suck, then they're sent to an attic every day until they quit!

As far as your issue with the DVR, you know what my advice would be.

Your issues does sound far different than what I was experiencing.  Our DVR's continued to drop streams on their own app long after they were pulled out of the Savant automation.  I'm sure Paul will work with you and Savant to try to get it resolved but how much time/money are you willing to throw at troubleshooting?  Our issue went on for 5 months. How happy do you think this client was with us during this period?

We took far more steps than just what's in this thread troubleshooting this issue, but I don't have the time or the desire to get into every detail about it. One of our first thoughts WAS that it was network related.  Along the path we swapped routers, network switches from managed to unmanaged and back to managed.  We even went as far as to swap the Ruckus zone director to attempt to get this resolved.  Even though we don't use this model number...

We changed the brand of switches we had in there because this has been on snaps site for over a year.  Alex said he'd get back to me regarding this issue in this very thread...... never heard from him.

Tons of hours and money were dumped into this once profitable job.  In the end, a simple brand swap fixed the problem.  I wish you the best on your upcoming troubleshooting adventure and I would suggest you pack a lunch;)

Regarding firmware and as an update on the longtime coming DVR firmware we have mentioned many times in this forum – we are in code lock and will be in regression testing through January before releasing to BETA. Yes, we have been talking about this firmware update for too long but it truly does address many issues and adds new features (IE 11 support, profile support to remember settings, GUI to match NVRs/IP cams, POS support, etc). Separately we posted a big update to our NVRs several months ago that solved HDD issues.

A little OT -
Any more info on POS Support?
Support meaning that there will the POS transaction embedded in the system?
If so, would it only work with some POS systems?

Great! Busy but great. We are looking forward to making a big push this year with a good game plan.

Maybe you should switch to Araknis ;) That would be the ultimate irony if their switches didn't work with their gear.

I use to get irritated at people who didn't call me back but Snap is far less guilty than any other rep I've ever talked to. The truth is, the business climate has changed and we are all stretched to the limits.

Tons of hours and money were dumped into this once profitable job.  In the end, a simple brand swap fixed the problem.  I wish you the best on your upcoming troubleshooting adventure and I would suggest you pack a lunch;)

I'm not too worried about it. What I do know is that Snap is much more likely to push an update vs. IC. I do agree it's frustrating but this is the world we live in. Everyone in this industry should make it a policy to not install anything until it's been fully tested for at least 6 months but you know how that goes....I love reading all of the schmucks on RTI complaining about the T2X remotes (nothing serious but still).

Merry Christmas!

Thanks G Paul!

I will follow up a week or so after the holidays! I might open up the True Control app on my Mac this weekend and see if I can replicate what's being described. It could be an issue with the current profile I'm using. I haven't upgraded to the latest profile because Savant got rid of the existing viewing/control profile and decided to go with view only and control only. So it would screw up my UI and I would have to spend an hour redoing everything. Because they have 24 zones of video/audio it would be a PIA.

Merry Christmas to you as well!

Are you actually able to trigger the ipad to open the savant app if it's not already open?

Good question. I currently have it only issue the page flip.

Savant does have a URL that will allow you to launch the Savant app within a URL or App. The question is, does Automator allow you send the command needed to the specific iPads? I don't believe it does so this so it might have to be a feature request.

For dedicated in/on walls this is a good idea but you don't want the wife's or kids ipads flipping when they're in the middle of other things.  Or how about dad's apps jumping in the middle of million dollar stock trades!
