I am utilizing Touch Screen Setup version 1.0.14 on a Dell Latitude laptop. The computer specifics are as follows: 6.00 GB hard drive (with 5.68 GB free), 233MHZ processor, 64 MB RAM and Windows 98 SE. When I try to utilize the software to customize a RC5200 the program starts out running fine but then progressively starts to get slower and slower until I have to reboot and lose unsaved information. The other option is to save the file as I see the program start to slow, which takes 5-10 minutes to complete, and then reboot the computer to have the program run fine for another 5 or 10 minutes. It took me over 5 hours to program a 5200 last week and even then, I did not complete the programming. It appears to work just fine on RC5000's but hang up on 5200 programming. I have not tried a RC9200 yet but have to assume I would experience the same situation. Once we shut the Marantz program down, the computer and all other programs run fine. We have two laptops this is happening on and wanted to see if others have encountered and hopefully remedied the problem.

This is a known problem. Usually it shows up as the program crashing. It occurs when you edit very large CCFs or spend a long time in the editor or run the emulator a lot. It is recommended that you save frequently (and to different named files each time), and that you exit the program regularly.

It's funny this subject pops up again.

I've been running Touch Screen Setup (TSS) on the laptop I'm typing this message on (Toshiba Satellite 1550, which is 3 years old by the way), and on a POS Compaq 2286 (ancient, I can hear the gerbals running when I try to do anything) and I've never had this problem.

Even when I start a file, then leave to do something else, then come back a few hours later, I don't experience this problem. Maybe I'm lucky?

Watch, now that I've said this, it will happen frequently. That's my luck!

JJP

It hasn't ever happened to me either. But there are environmental issues at work - large CCFs, other things running on computer, running the emulator a lot, having a virus checker running (this one is a big influence), memory taken up of the icons in your CCF (another big factor), size of paging file, which version of Windows, how often you reboot your computer, what day of the week it is, how much you post on RemoteCentral, how much you paid for your remote, etc. I'm sure you can come up with more, John!

It sounds like you're a bit light on RAM. This software has numerous memory leaks. In your case, it sounds like the RAM is filling up, then appears slow as Windows starts swapping to virtual memory. Try to run this software alone, no other apps. The biggest "leak" I've found is opening galleries. Clicking through a dozen gallery pages is an invitation to disaster!

Am new to this forum so hope am in the correct area!

I have 2 RC5000 remotes that need to be re-programmed. Where can I get an up to date version of the software in either Win 64-bit or MacOS format?

I have a USB lead that I think will work as old lead was serial.

Am using Win 10 or MacOS Monterey

Many thanks for any assistance

Well, you are using a remote for which software has not been updated and that is no longer made.

You are fresh out of luck for anything that is 64 bit and you will need to use the Class Pronto FAQ to get the cabling and everything correct.

All this being said, you can either install a VM with Windows XP that supports COM ports and run TouchScreenSetup from there or you can try using Tonto which you may have to build.
