We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

I have a beta unit for backup and restore which is quite nice. And if the software that Dave is writing is what he says it will be, $100 is a reasonable starting price for low quantities.

I think this will be a real winner!

Let's hope it's not a one MX-500 program only as I asked him a Q once about a SAVE AS for multiple MX-500's and never got a response. I have 3-MX-500's too.

Are you planning any compatibility with MX-700 files (.MXD and .MXF) so MX-500 users can share in the MX-700 files here on Remote Central?

I guess I am "him". Give me a little break please as I was on vacation. Anyway I needed to get the answer from Dave. These are my questions to him:

"Does the software have a "Save As" ability? Several people have multiple MX-500's and want to save separate files. Will your software be able to reverse compile from a captured "ALL" file. For example can I insert the "ALL" file that I sent you into the "create" part of your software to see what it was that I originally programmed."

These are the relevant parts of Dave's reply:

"Save-As is no problem... So, you should be able to either start with an empty 'new' app and upload from your remote, then save it away. Or start with opening an existing file on disk etc."

and in addition

"BTW - the editor also allows you to open two (or more) remote files... I expect to be able to cut/paste devices/favs/macros etc. between any two files. ;-)"

Hope this helps.

We are not planning that for the first cut. I do see that has major value and Dave and I will discuss whether to add that into the future capabilities of the IRCLONE-MX.

With the MX-500's lack of in-device macros etc, is that even possible?

I could see grabbing CODES from an MX-700 file, but not configurations or macros.

Can somebody please post a synopsis of this will do for us? 9 pages is a lot to read and I can't figure out exactly what it will do.

Thanks,
Derek

From a post about 2 pages ago :)

Here is a recap of the SW features:
· A Windows application which will run on Win98 WinMe, Win2K, WinXP.
· WYSIWYG view of the MX-500 with a 'tree' organization of the Device, Favorite and Macro Data. Icons and Reminder Tips indicate 'programmed', 'learned' and 'empty' buttons.
· Backup the programmed contents of the MX-500 (device codes, labels, learned buttons, macros, favorites, etc.) to a file.
· Reload a MX-500 from a saved file.
· Edit all button labels (Device Names, Device Buttons, Favorites)
· Copy/Move a 'Device' from one button to another on main screen.
· Copy/Move labels from one button to another.
· Copy/Move IR code from one device button to another device button.
· Program Macros interactively by 'clicking' on device buttons.
· Review Macros in a 'Table' format.
· Program/Review Favorites in a 'Table' format.

Advanced (Future) Features:
· Capture IR codes from another remote and assign to buttons.
· Paste 'Pronto Hex Format Codes' and assign them to buttons/macros.
· Save learned IR codes to 'Pronto Hex Format'.

Hardware:
The hardware is a small cable and IR xmit./recv. which plugs in via. a USB port (dongle).

Free or extra cost?

For software we will give free bug fixes and upgrades for at least the currently published "advanced features"

Capture IR codes from another remote and assign to buttons.
Paste 'Pronto Hex Format Codes' and assign them to buttons/macros.
Save learned IR codes to 'Pronto Hex Format'.

Beyond this we reserve the right to charge for major enhancements.

There are no hardware upgrades planned at this time but enhancements are possible. Should they become available the unit will need to be returned for reprogramming and an appropriate charge applied.

Thanks Daniel. I am not an expert on the 700 so I'm not sure what can and cannot be transferred to the MX-500. Overall there are compatibilities between the 700 and 500. If we decided to include MX-700 compatibility in the future we would need to figure out what that compatibility is. We'd then transfer those functions from the 700 to Dave's software in 500 form. Any holes, such as those caused by the different key arrangements, would have to be filled in by the user. At least a lot of the users work would not have to be redone.

P.S

Some of the keyboards in the internet cafes here
obviously substitute £ for $ and I didn't realize
that until I read the responses.

My apologies once again.

Mike

$100 is a little too steep for me. Nice job though - I'll be monitoring this forum to hear of other people's experiences with your invention.
