I am still officially on vacation but I will try to answer a couple of questions. Firstly ordering will be on-line so the "list" will come through the ordering process. If it comes down to it I will try to honor the unofficial "list". Secondly the price, for the IRCLONE-MX will include Dave's software and will be close to £100. Warranty and returns I am still working on.

Ouch, that's higher than I expected. I'll have to wait and see what the software is capable of. It would be cheaper to just get another remote if the main purpose is backup of settings.

"A sudden hush descended over the forum..."

I'm guessing that we'll have to add overseas shipping too, for us "yanks".
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I would agree with Spiky either way 100 pounds or 100 dollars having just bought a brand new MX-500 for around $120 I can get a whole new one at that level, unless there is some really strong features in the software I don't see the real benefit for backup ability. If it can save me from the OFA and JP1 stuff and backup and editing then we may be talking.

Honestly, I was so excited about your gadget
until I saw the price: 100 British pounds is about
155 US dollars. For US$45 less, I can get
another brand new MX-500 for backup or for US$70
more, I can get a brand new Pronto TSU-2000 with
all the bells and whistles.

Thanks.

Considering what you'll be getting and how much time and effort went into developing it I think that's a fair price.
Especially when manufacturing in small quantities.
I'd expect the price to go down when production is ramped up. Early adopters always pay more.

Maybe Mike will consider selling just the software and schematics or a parts kit for building your own.

I'm not saying it's not a fair price **with respect to**
the work involved in developing it, but **with respect
to** my own perpective and goal, there is more cost efficient
way of backing up my MX-500 as I said in my previous post.

Am I the only one that thought this was going to be an
open source style hack and is now dis-
apointed that the price is so high??
The hardware cost shouldnt be much more then the JP1 hardware which cost about $10 to $20. The
software is worth $50? I think I may just be confused.
Why would someone just buy a second unit?

Yes. That's exactly what I thought too: a jp1-like
hack and low cost gadget. Of course, Mike is free
to set whatever price he likes. But from my perspective,
I think I'll pass (I figured that US$155 + probably
at leastUS$20 shipping/insurance and that'll come out
to $175. I might as well add another $50 to get
a brand new Pronto for $225 from Avsmarts).

And HTM just breathes a big sigh of relief. There will still be a market for the MX-700. Since I now have my MX-500 basically programmed, using a cheap $8.00 Cinema 7 I got at Wall-Mart for the discrete codes, I would basically use the package for backup. I would rather spend $120 on another MX-500 for this purpose, than $155 plus overseas shipping issues. I am not saying this is not a fair price for the work involved, but it just does not make economic sense for me.

What did you guys expect? If you have followed this thread from the beginning, you know how much time and effort went into this development. This device will be more than just a "backup" but rather an editing package that should save a lot of time and effort. Plus, its value would greatly increase IF one could save multiple configurations a la Pronto's CCF files. I for one am very impressed and will be there when the web site is ready to accept orders! Lets show some support, people! The final price is not set in stone, yet!
