How can Sony be so stupid?! First they create a unser inreface which it seems everybody agrees is quite useless, but which has a brilliant 3rd party solution through DMX, then they stop that solution from working....

Bracken,

may I suggest two changes to your software (if they are not already there as options I have not found):

1. When examining the "Changers" window and selecting my 2nd Pioneer DV-F727 changer I get an error message: 200 Disc(s) found outside the 400 Disc Max of any changer". As I have two of those Pioneer changers daisy chained I have in effect one changer of 600 discs in terms of slot selection. The reason I have the two separate changers listed in for correct input selection in my amplifier as the daisy chaining does not include audio/video connections. Your software works fine though, so it is only an unnecessary error message, nothing major.

2. When examining the "Changers" window and selecting my Sony 860 player I get an error message saying "duplicate discs in slot 0" or somthing similar. I have around 100 discs in my collection that are not in my changers due to lack of space, yet I want them all available through DMX. These are therefore all located in the EASY (rental) slot # 0 of this changer. However, this means I must press "enter" approximately 100 times to remove the error message. Maybe slot 0 could be allowed multiple entries without an error meassage?

Christopher,

Sorry for not catching this post earlier.

1. I will certainly address this and make an update soon.

2. Might I suggest another solution that I would prefer if this were my situation.

Create a third "changer" (possibly called 'shelf') in DMX that is for all movies that are not currently in a changer. Then place all of these discs in that "changer" in DVD Profiler. Now on your remote, make this "changer"'s loading screen say something to the effect of, "This disc is not in a changer, please load it manually in the easy play slot then touch to continue"

This way the movies that arent actually in a slot give you a special message telling you so and then gives you the opportunity to load it prior to proceeding on.

Best Regards,

Bracken,

your suggested method is almost word for word what I have implemented (great minds think alike), however I send the slot 0 command as this will cause my charger to open and accept the DVD in the right slot. If I don't have a slot number, will the disc even show up on DMX? My discs without location data don't show up!

BTW, my age old issue on no discs showing up under the numbered labels on the main menu screen is still there...

Also, I just bought a used MX-3000 to act as back-up in case something was to happen to my old MX-3000 (GOd forbid, but I have in fact already broken one). The new (but used) MX-3000 will not accept my DMX'ed file as it says it's too large, it will only accept roughly 10MB as opposed to 12MB on my old one. Are these different version, or am I missing something?

Help needed. I'm trying to get my system up and running again. I updated DVD Profiler when the DMX software asked me to and now I get a message asking me to update DVD profiler again. I'm also getting a runtime error 6 message. It has been months and the DVDs are piling up. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Due to the large number of DVDs presently in my changers I cannot squeeze a reasonable GUI and all DVDs into my MX-3000. I have therefore been thinking of using two remotes, one for Movies and one for TV series. I don't want to keep different databases on DVD Profiler though, does anyone know of a way of exporting two different versions of the database?I have roughly 2000 DVDs.

Create a seperate configuration file for your TV series. It will take a bit more work to merge it into yuor current setup but it's really cool. I had the same issue except I have a large database of kids movies and a large database of regular movies. A company (total control remotes) programme my remote, but they set up 2 different changer IDS and 2 seperate configuraions and gave me instructions how to merge it in. Now I have two buttons on my DVD - Movies nd Kids Movies. It works well.

Thanks Jimmy, but my issue might be the opposite of yours, I have two separate remote controls, I don't wish to merge anything, but to be able to run the DMX on different parts of my single profiler database.

Solved one half of this problem, I am able to get my TV-series only exported from DVD Profiler bi filtering the genre Television and exporting filtered profiles only. However, I have found no way of filtering "Not Television", does anyone know how I can do that?

Chris,
Have you tried flagging the DVDs you want on one remote and then export the xml file (select flagged option)for the matching remote file?

The flags disappear when I leave DVD Profiler. Si I'd need flag between 100 and 200 entries each time I did an update :-( I have solved it by removing all genres except TV from the TV-series discs, but this isn't optimal as I would have liked to have been able to sort on genres within TV series.

Chris,
(PART 1)
It may require you to move discs around but this example might be easier for you and keep genres. This setup allows me to put children movies on a separate remote for my daughter. In your case separate movie and TV shows between remotes or any combination.
I currently have 3 Sony 400 disc changers. In Changers 1 & 2, I store all movies except children and multi-disc movies/TV shows. In Changer 3, I store children movies first and the starting from the back/Slot 400 all multi-disc movie/TV shows.
A good rule of thumb when adding discs to DVD Profiler is to match the collection number with the slot number.(Movie disc only, not the extras disc. This also saves space.) Multi disc movie/TV shows prevent the collection/slot numbers from matching up in succession. This being the reason they're located in the last changer and for easier sorting.
Example: Collection # 1-400=Slot # 1-400(Changer 1), Collection # 401-800=Slot # 1-400(Changer 2), Collection # 801-1200=Slot # 1-400(Changer 3)
Example: The movie "Matrix" might be Collection 525=Slot # 125(Changer 2)
Note: DVD Profiler auto adds a Collection # with the next available value unless entered in manually. I add more 1 disc movies more than children and multi-disc movie/TV shows. So this gives me the next available collection # for those movies. I have to Manually enter children movies and multi-disc movie/TV shows so I make note of available slots in Changer 3 before adding any of those titles.
Example: The Lord or the Rings multi discs are entered as :
The Fellowship of the Ring Collection#1195
Changer 3/Slot 1195(part 1)
Changer 3/Slot 1196(part 2)
The Two Towers Collection #1197
Changer 3/Slot 1197(part 1)
Changer 3/Slot 1189(part 2)
The Return of the King Collection #1199
Changer 3/Slot 1199(part 1)
Changer 3/Slot 1200(part 2)

Chris,
(Part 2)
Next, it's pretty easy to select which discs you would like on any remote.
In DVD Profiler select the option to sort by Collection #. From there you can use the shortcuts to flag all above or below. Then export XML file.(don't for get to select the flagged box). Open DMX3000 and choose which remote file you would like the disc info on the transfer. Do the same for the discs that you would like on the other remote. This example is only easy if the discs are enter into DVD Profiler in a similar manner using Collection #s so that you don't have to spend time going through your collection in DVD Profiler one by one.
Hopes this helps,
Brian

Thanks Brian, great minds think alike, I have organized my set-up much like yours! :-)

However, yesterday I found that it seems possible to chose a logical "not" when filtering in genres in DVD Profiler, so it should be possible, using "export filtered profiles only" to export one set of profiles that have Television as a Genre and one that excludes those with Television.

I will experiment a bit more, but it appears that I can reintroiduce additional Genres to the 200+ DVDs for which I removed the Genres last week.....

Just received my Sony BDP-CX7000ES 400 disc blu-ray mega-changer yesterday, and have started to look at it. Has anyone had any success in controlling this changer using DMX?

First thoughts, pressing the "Rental Slot" button should bring it to position 1, thereafter it should be a question of pressing "Disc Skip" the right number of times? Primitive, yes, incovenient (aim and wait), yes, but does it work and is it possible to automate?
