I believe this site needs to update and/or improve its method for user authentication, as I believe it may be losing some users due to the way it works. When I first joined this forum, I had to reenter my password every single time I wanted to post something. Until I learned in another thread that other people were not having to reenter their password, I assumed that was they way the forum operated. Based on other messages I have seen posted, I believe other users encounter the same problem and I believe it makes users less likely to want participate here. I have now discovered that Remote Central appears to be dependent on the very first "cookie" that it receives when an account is created, in order to authenticate the user. I use several different PC's at my home and office, and also regularly clean out my cookies folder. When I visit other forums, if the forum does not recognize me because I am on a different PC or have cleaned out my cookies, all I have to do is enter my password once and I am logged in and it recognizes me.

There are several features that other forums have that I would like to see here. Here are a few:

1. Set up my forum account to send me an E-mail whenever there is a new post in a thread I am involved in.
2. Send a private forum message to other users.
3. Add other members to my "buddies list", so I can see when they are logged in, and send them private messages.
4. Insert pictures and attachments in messages.
5. I have a high speed connection and notice that Remote Centrals site frequently seems to slow to a crawl, especially when trying to post a message. Sometimes, posts will not load, but I can surf the forum. After I wait a while, I resubmit the post and it goes through. While it is possible that the problem is due to other Internet congestion, it seems to happen enough here that I suspect there are some upgrades required in this regard as well.

Dear Sir,

I wish to disagree with you in the strongest possible terms. For i tend to ramble profusely when something (a) is bothering me (b) makes me nervous or (c) i have nothing more enlightening to say at the time rambling (also known as in mexican spanish "cantinfleando" after the famous mexican comedic actor named "cantinflas"- that's a little culture for you you're welcome) can be perceived as an art (accidental or intentional) as a personality quirk (guilty as charged!) or as bothersome and annoying (guilty as charged!) i may lose my train of thought several dozen times a day and so i am a decent breeding ground for rambling i'll often latch onto a thought idea mental picture (usually one of the "golden girls") or saying and that will just about dictate how my mood and/or productivity progresses for any given day i've been accused of getting snooty with others as they ramble and for that i publlicly apologize to all whom i have offended at those times (NOT!) i was probably mulling over some profound piece in my head (capacity: about a pint and a half) in any event this habit of mine usually gets in the way of my ability to truly be of any service to humankind oh well we can't all be "matlock" so without further ado i guffaw with glee chuckle like a chimp and titter that might explain the arterial blockage that my doctor often refers to of course the last time i visited him in his "office" (an '87 ford aerostar with duct-tape on the windows) he also recommended animal sacrifice ("squirrels work really well" said he) to cure what ails me any Perfumed Breasts... young yuppies roaming the streets, crying, loafing and drinking Snapple will most certainly occur, unabated!

Yours sincerely,
Bridget Marwood-Got (tired-of-it-all).

Read that back, will you, Brian?

I couldn't agree more Brigadier. That was exactly my point.

Will the insanity never end? How long must we tolerate this insolence? When will these hippies realize that they wouldn't be here to celebrate there so called love and peace without the blood and sweat of men like us?

Dear General Marwood-Git,

I can assure you that most of the "....roaming the streets, raping, looting and killing" done in the past fifty-or-so years was certainly not done by "young hippies"! I know nobody who becomes violent when stoned.

I was born in 1955, and grew up in the Pepsi generation. I knew more than my fair share of hippies, and still know many today. Most hippies were pacifists. The Hitler Youth of today are not the offspring of hippies.

All of that aside, I too am happy with the forum as it is, and, along with most here, feel that Dan has done and is doing a most admirable job in his administration efforts.

In fact, this is the only forum I frequent, as it is so much less cumbersome to navigate than any other I have visited. Keep up the good work, Dan!

Dear Sir,

Once again I must protest in the strongest possible terms! Someone seems to have Shanghaied my previous post! Most certain it was one of those young hippies! Below is the context of the aforementioned post:

I wish to protest in the strongest possible terms. For how long are we to put up with these things. I am nearly sixty and am quite mad, but I do enjoy posting here. If this continues to go on unabated, well then...Dunkirk... dark days of the war... backs to the wall... Alvar Liddell ... Berlin air lift ... moral upheaval of Profumo case ... young hippies roaming the streets, raping, looting and killing will most certainly occur, unabated!

Yours sincerely,
Brigadier N. F. Marwood-Git (retired).

post scriptum; I am watching all you young hippie hooligans.....HA-rummmmmph!

What is wrong with you? Can't you see your suggestions are neither wanted or needed here. This forum is perfect and needs no improvement.

What do you think this is, a forum for the exchange of ideas?

Dear Sir, East Grinstead, Sunday.

As a prolific letter-writer, I feel I must protest about the previous letter. My husband, in common with a lot of people of his age, is sixty and fancies himself quite sane. When will your incessant letter-chatter cease?

Yours sincerely,
E. B. Debenham (Mrs).

sigh - well - I feel out of the loop. All this talking aboutme and no one talking to me (unless you count Greg ordering me around).

Speaking of which... a backrub I can do Greg, but nothings free. You know this. (We're not going to talk about my cooking skills here - Rofl I can cook about as well as a family pet can.)

1. Set up my forum account to send me an E-mail
whenever there is a new post in a thread I am
involved in.

asked before read this thread for Daniel's response [Link: remotecentral.com]

2. Send a private forum message to other users.
3. Add other members to my "buddies list", so I can
see when they are logged in, and send them private
messages.
4. Insert pictures and attachments in messages.

I don't know about 2 and 3 but I would not mind 4 :-) but I guess they fall into the same category as # 1

5. I have a high speed connection and notice that
Remote Centrals site frequently seems to slow to a
crawl, especially when trying to post a message.
Sometimes, posts will not load, but I can surf the
forum. ...

I can agree sometimes it seems slow, but I never had the second problem with posting

----------------

Unlike some of the other forums, that are run by a company, and I would assume they finance the site (at least from what they themselves have said). Except for the few advertisers the rest of the cost of running RC comes from Daniel's pocket, so he might not be able to pay as much. Also with any sites you must give up on some things to have others.

For instance on one other site that I visit (that has the stuff you asked for), I asked if they can add a time stamp for each forum in the forum (like this site), since it happens often that I start reading posts and I get sidetracked. It is OK for the forum I am in, but for the rest of them you lose what was the last thread you read. Also it is annoying if you take a long time in one form, since the next time you return to the site you have to read some extra threads just to make sure you did not miss something because something was posted between the time you finished reading that forum and the last forum you read. And the third consequence is that sometimes I skip the site because I don’t think I have enough time to go through all the forums. But when I asked them if they could change from a global time stamp to a forum based time stamp the admin there said it would be too demanding on the server. Every admin has choices to make and limited resources, sometimes we agree, sometimes we do not.

Dear JJP (and Turnip), Bagshot, Surrey (Sunday, 8:19pm)

You Sir are (also) a Twit!

This is a most serious matter under discussion here, and I wish to protest your unseemly behaviour in the strongest possible terms....Dunkirk... dark days of the war... backs to the wall... ThePasswordIsRhubarb,

You sir/madam seem to suffer from multiple personality disorder. I further theorize that each time you post a message, one of your alternate psyches is coming back and changing it, since each message that you post seems to be hijacked or edited some time later.
