OK, here's how it's going to work.
1) If a computer has the NAME cookie set, then
everything stays as it is.
Cool.
2) If a computer does not have a cookie set, then
a temporary name/password one will be set that
will only last as long as the browser is active
(so, for the session only).
Can you post under this temp name/password, or is this just a temporary
cookie that requires a valid name and password that is already in RC's database? If you can post with a temp name/password that isn't in the database, then it basically nullifies one of the main reasons for having a set name and password namely people being responsible for what they post.
(Personally, I think User Names that include the password i.e. Rhubarb, etc. should be deleted by the webmaster, since that too nullifies the idea of the user being responsible for what they post.)
3) If a NAME cookie is set and someone enters
in another valid name/password set, then a temporary
cookie with that information will be set and will
last for as long as the browser is active. When
they come back to the site, absolutely no cookie
will exist (they'll have to set either a new temporary
or perminant one).
Cool, except for the reservations about temporary names and passwords that I have mentioned above.
This is only active in the GENERAL forum for right
now (let me know what you think).
See above!
... Greg :-)
P.S. I'm not going to test it out until I get my questions answered since I don't want to lose my cookies! (Pun intended, but information valid.)
