If you want to sell your company and do something else, trust me I get that...

If you want to be a manufacturer's rep, PLEASE call be back and let me talk some sense into you. :)

Why didn't someone shoot photos of the job after the rough-in was done?

I had the exact same thought.

I gave up being a CI (employee) due to medical reasons and am now a rep.

Old job:
Average 7am to 6.30pm (lunch optional)
Work vehicle including private use
Phone, and laptop
Plenty of stress
income around 70k

Current job as rep:
9 to 5,
Work from home most of the time.
No weekend work ever except maybe a tech support call once a month.
Away from home only about 3 days a month on average.
Overseas travel including time to myself on company dime. (Example, sent me to Stuttgart for 9 days even though my commitments were only 3 days)
My own choice of company vehicle up to 40K
Laptop, iPad, phone
No questions asked on hotel, meals, entertainment expenses.
Very little stress
Income roughly double my former job and growing with turnover.

I'm the first to admit that my job is not the standard deal as a rep. However jobs such as mine do exist and i got it on the back of being a decent CI and having some people skills.

That sounds like a great gig, but unfortunately it must be an Aussy thing.

I haven't heard of any reps here in USA that have it that good, although I hope that many do/could/would.

All it really takes is an employer with a great business model and a desire to ensure his employees stick around. There are only 4 employees in our company including the boss. The dispatch guy and myself are full time and the boss and accounts girl are part time. Having got the right people, my boss can stick his head in every now and then but spends the majority of his time on his family and working on his house. He also has at least 2 extended overseas holidays a year leaving the other 3 of us to run things while he is away for a couple of months at a time. The 3 of us are reliable and good at our jobs and there are never fires to be put out after he has been away.
Ask yourself, if you had a high profit business that turned over a few million a year with a skeleton staff you could rely on, wouldn't you do your best to ensure those staff were happy and wanted to stick around?

Simon, I agree.
Problem seems to be that those companies are far and few in-between, and landing a job with one is almost as hard as winning a lottery.

The problem with working for my company is that it's surrounded by affordable housing in areas like this.

Get them there BEFORE you tell them about the tax situation! I also heard that they tax deposits into your accounts (at a fixed rate) at the bank so people that get paid in cash hoard large amounts of cash in their houses instead of putting into their bank accounts, it that really true? (Someone that lives there told me that.)

Australia maintains a relatively low tax burden in comparison with other wealthy, developed nations, at 25.6% of GDP in 2013.[1]

Oh, the horror!
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Not true. Your deposits are not automatically taxed unless you have not provided the bank with your tax file number. Even then you can claim that tax back if it not deemed taxable money. So long as you are not trying to cheat the tax man with fake accounts you have no problem. If you do cash business and don't want to pay tax, buy a safe.

Our tax burden here in Oz is as follows:

0 – $18,200
Nil

$18,201 – $37,000
19c for each $1 over $18,200

$37,001 – $80,000
$3,572 plus 32.5c for each $1 over $37,000

$80,001 – $180,000
$17,547 plus 37c for each $1 over $80,000

$180,001 and over
$54,547 plus 45c for each $1 over $180,000

There is also no tax on any kind of gambling winnings here. If you win lotto for example you get the whole lot tax free.
