I also have to laugh a bit, I am a software guy, as I find it funny that this is wakeup is considered "a hardware problem". And, that with earlier firmware the wakeup did not occur and with later firmware it does (7.1.21 or higher as I don't think 5.0.6 had the issue). So, even though the newer hardware may not exhibit the issue, as a software guy, I strongly suspect that something in firmware changed such that the older hardware is more sensitive and wakeup occurs.

I'm not a software guy as such but I could not agree more...

Did it maybe started with the built-in command for the scroll wheel?
Earlier you had to do your own script if I'm correct.

In my opinion it could be a hardware problem that occurs when the firmware was updated. I have had that experiences several times as a computer technician.
Mostly more occurring in the past though.

Harry,

Not likely. Problem also existed in 7.1.21 firmware which was prior to PEPv2 supporting scroll-wheel-based actions.

You are sure the code was not already in the firmware but not implemented officially?

I am still on PEP1 with firmware 6.0.21 to avoid the problem mentioned in the topic header. Is there any hope to have this fixed?

It is supposedly better or was reported fixed with the latest BETA firmware.

Note that if you use this firmware coupled with PEP1, any Prontoscript coded directly in Actions Tab of Properties for firm/hard keys will not work properly if downloaded to the remote.

If you upgrade your configuration to PEP2 or higher, you will not have this Prontoscript on Hard/FirmKey issue.

I'd say it is better but not fixed (TSU9600 V7.4.22-1.5.20).

I actually thought my TSU9600 was broken and purchased another just before the whole Pronto website / discontinued / etc. ruckus broke out. Because of that I'm saving the other TSU9600 "just in case".

I did test it and it didn't seem to exhibit the problem, even with older firmware. The unit I use has the wheel with little nubs, while the spare looks more like gear teeth (IIRC; it's in storage at the moment).

Lyndel/Terry, thanks for the input. I'll have to check if I have any Prontoscript in Action Tabs or Properties but I am not having any issues currently. I should probably move up to PEP2 though to be able to get rid of WEP on my network. Are there any issues with WPA on the TSU 9600?

Agreed. I have been running 7.4.22 for a couple of weeks now and the self-awakening problem appeared a few times. It's probably better than with the previous version of the firmware but definitely not fixed.

On top of that, ProntoSqueeze 1.9 does not work under 7.4.22...

I also still have this problem, even with the latest firmware.

As I suspected the rotary wheel to be the cause, I stuck an piece of cardboard between the front panel and the wheel, which basically secures the rotary wheel. This did not solve the problem.

What I did notice now is that the screen will turn itself on whenever there is a small disturbance close to the TSU9600. For example when I put a glass down.

This is despite I have turned off the pickup-sensor. What I also noticed is that the display does not react to these disturbances when it sits on it back. (even when I slam my fist on the table) Only when it sit in its cradle!

So my next action is propably going to be to open up the TSU9600 and see if I can take out/disconnect the pickup sensor.

(if this is not going to work, I will very likely use my foot and crush the bloody thing as this issue is driving me nuts....)

The only thing that resolved this issue for me was going to TSU9600's with the updated scroll, the same scroll wheel used by the TSU9400 and TSU9800. I have 3 TSU9600's now, all with the newer scroll wheel. None have ever exhibited this issue. My original TSU9600 is no longer functional, but experienced this issue from day one on all firmware versions. I owned 2 other TSU9600's with the original scroll as well for short periods of time over the years. Both of those remotes experienced the issue. Draw what conclusions you may.

Did you try firmware 6.0.21? I went back to that one and the problem went away...

Yes, no auto screen turn on with that firmware. But it does give me a weekly freeze of the unit. Only to be resolved with a hard off/on......

I could try to do a compelete rebuild from scratch of my template and hope I will resolve that particular problem, but that will take me a least half a day........

Yes, I forgot about that. I, too, get the weekly freeze. I don't think the rebuild will fix the self-awakening problem though as it is known to be a firmware issue. Note also that the latest version of ProntoSqueeze will not run on 6.0.2.1
