I guess there is no hope for getting this problem fixed?

Well, you can buy a 9600 with a metal wheel. Reportedly, that corrects the issue.

I find it quite upsetting that a previous version of the firmware does not have the problem; it is obviously not a hardware problem (as we may have discussed before).

Thanks anyway Lyndel...

Well, I had this annoying issue on all of my TSU9800 remotes with the very latest firmware and software. What fixed it permanently (for me) was removing the motion sensor from the circuit board completely. Of course this means the display cannot be turned on when the remote is picked up.

I tried all other settings and options to no avail. The motion sensor turns out to be a ball inside a small housing that triggers when physically moved. It seems that despite turning off the pickup sensor in the settings menu, the firmware still reacted in some way (wrongly) and turned on the display. Thus removing it fixes this bug once and for all.

With mine, this sometimes happens when the screen is dirty. I guess it alters the degree of capacitance necessary to awaken the screen. A good clean has always solved it for me.
