Give them the updatable software I downloaded from where? URC's policy is to get the software from the authorized dealer that sold the remote, but as previously stated, some authorized dealers (the bigger ones it seems), don't/won't include the live updating s/w. "Don't buy from them" should not be the answer. And regardless of dealer status, URC should support the end user, who is, after all, the SOLE REASON that URC is in business today. Installers can justify a higher price because they are doing the programming, so what's the beef with do-it-yourselfers paying less and doing their own programming? Regardless of what some would have us believe, it's not that difficult.

You buy from authorized dealer that gives you software. You get software. You send software to buyer.

Please note that any discussion of URC's policy in regards to the thought or morality behind it or that comes from it is forbidden on this forum.

Let me get this straight. If I buy a used URC product,
I cannot download software updates. If I buy a new URC
product, but then sell it, I must disclose to the buyer
that THEY cannot download software updates. What an interesting
way to build a loyal customer base! I sure am glad I
found these threads BEFORE I bought a URC product.

Certainly I wouldn't let this factor ALONE dictate your choice of what to buy. The updateable software is readily available. You can find lots of people on the Internet who'd be willing to give it to you. You can also easily talk URC into giving it to you.

Well, Bluedo havent given me an answer yet after i emailed them. I have bougth 2 MX800, 1 MX700, 2 MX500 and about 4 mrf200. I emailed them the serialnr on one of my mx800 and no reply so if you see this Bluedo help me out.
If anyone else will help so so am i just as happy, i also have a MX3000 bought on ebay and for that software im stuck and cant get any upgrades. Sad, im going to buy a onkyo 905 and it would be easy to have it in irdatabase. After all i am a pretty honest URC costumer. They only make it harder for me...
My mail is [email protected] if anyone can help me out with either the MX800 or MX 3000 software, both would be perfekt :-)

Wow! You have a lot of remotes! In fact, you have more remotes than I have components. And I'm adding up all the components I have at home and at work!

What's up with that?

I have one MX3000, that and a MX800 myself.
I have a summerplace to.
My father has an 700 that i helped him with and the rest i ordered to some friends.
But what's up with that??
I like remotes ;-)
I havent heard anything from Bluedo and dont get my "live updated" program.
That sucks, i could really need the pre installed codes in the updated program for my Onkyo 905 receiver when that arrives.
Costumer friendly??
I need to learn all the ir for it to work. Shure i'll do it but it gives me more work and this thing with blocking the updates is not user friendly. Just annoying..

If you are in a predicament because of this new policy,
email me.

Predicament in what regard?

Missing Serial #
or
Software Policy for "unidentified" models.

Hi Eric:

I have updated software from my authorized dealer Surf remote control for my MX-850. I have two questions/problems. The software won't let me run the live update. When it starts to download a message appears saying that the patch failed. Do you have a solution for this. I am also looking for updated codes of a Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player and a new Integra Receiver 8.8. The newest integra remote that is similar in the IR Database is an 8.4 which is several years old and really out of date. How do I get newer IR codes if they are available. Thanks much!

My new MX-900 came with all updatable software, etc. However, It does not have the specified "serial # under battery". I couldn't register "no serial #" option. Any ideas ? MX-900, what a beauty !

There should be a serial number. If you bought the remote without a serial number it probably was illegally sold.

By chance did you put batteries in the remote prior to looking for the sn? When I first got mine the label came off and stuck to one of the batteries.

In my opinion URC's continued poor policy change and poor treatment of customers who purchased their products and now have software troubles is a disgrace. A terrible move that only has bad affects on URC's customers and not accomplished anything else.

Although I like my URC remotes, URC's policy change has shown me that they are not a company I care to do business with and that URC has no respect for customers who have purchased their products. It's sad to see that URC has not corrected this policy.
