Final Impressions
Overall, the 75-page manual is well written with clear instructions and detailed diagrams for all remote functions, although some technical phrases are unusual. Unfortunately, the component code list is separate from the manual, meaning it could be easily separated and lost. The screen is clear with good contrast, however an option to have the backlight come on automatically with each button press would have been welcome. In extended use the remote is very easy to configure; in daily operation all members of my family found it simple and intuitive. Infrared range is long and wide; I found it worked quite reliably from behind minor obstructions.

The RM-AV2100 builds on its predecessorís strong foundation with an even greater array of features and capabilities. Itís a well executed product that I recommend without hesitation. More memory, more customization, more macros, more speed. The icing on the cake is that the list price remains the same at $179 USD, even lower on the street. So, if youíre shopping for a comprehensive yet economical learning remote control you'll want to look at Sonyís new offering.
