Hi Folks,
One thing to try on unresponsive touch screens. Sometimes debris gets lodged under the edges of the touchscreen, between the plastic bezel and the glass, such that it is pushing on the screen and therefore the screen either responds sporatically or not at all.
Take a business card and stick the corner of the card between the bezel and the glass screen. Now run the corner of the card all the way around the 4 edges of the screen a few times and see if you get any "debris" out of it and then try the calibration again. Sometimes this helps.
Also, when calibrating, are you using something with a fine point and being very precise? Like a pda stylus?

New member. Glad to find others with exactly the same problem.
Catalyst: Immediately started getting problems after upgraded firmware from 3.1.15 to 3.6.7 (going by memory on exact versions). Also upgraded Pronto Edit NG at the same time from 2.0.6 to 2.1.1. Is it possible Pronto Edit is the problem, not the firmware?? I have since downgraded to previous firmware, still have the problem.
Symptom: At first, calibration would be off by 1/4" to 1/2" every night, and need to be recalibrated. After 3 weeks, touch screen completely unresponsive. After much mucking with, managed to reset the unit only to get stuck on calibration screen.
Date first observed: Not sure, may be as early as June 5th
Firmware: v 3.6.7 and v 3.1.15 (?)
E-Mailed Pronto team: Yes, July 3rd, after reading threads here on this forum.

About 2 weeks ago, this touch screen problem started happening after working fine for the 4 months or so that I've had the remote. I don't remember the firmware, but I upgraded it when I got it, so it was the latest available in March. once I started having the problem, I upgraded to the latest from June. all that did was get me to the calibration screen. I wasn't able to get past that until today after leaving the remote sit for about a week. idunno! seems to be working fine now.

I got an email from Philips telling me to call them. I called today and they told me they could send a replacement for $150. I told them I didn't think that was a fair offer considering that is basically the cost of a new one and I already bought one that used to work fine. I was transferred to some other dept and spoke with a woman who told me there was nothing they could do since my remote is out of warranty.
Looks like I'm either going back to my RC5000 (imagine, it still works fine after 4+ years) or buying a Harmony.
Philips, you've lost my business in all things consumer electronics unless you own up to breaking these, and do something about it. Do you guys read remotecentral anymore? Do you care about alienating the people who struggled through the early firmware revisions with you?

Dave Dave, have you been lucky enough not to see this problem? It is real, and definitely more than debris (I do appreciate the idea though - and I tried it without success). I'm convinced that the failure to calibrate and non-responsive touchscreen are symptoms of the same problem. The touchscreen still reacts to touch (b/c the backlight comes on) but it is not processing those touches correctly. It is a progressive disease, with the remote becoming more and more dysfunctional over time (mine started this behavior a year ago, and is now becoming completely unusable). I'm so frustrated b/c I poured so many hours into my pcf, and really was completely satisfied with this remote until this problem.
