Looks like I'm either going back to my RC5000
(imagine, it still works fine after 4+ years)
or buying a Harmony.

Philips, you've lost my business in all things
consumer electronics unless you own up to breaking
these, and do something about it. Do you guys
read remotecentral anymore? Do you care about
alienating the people who struggled through the
early firmware revisions with you?

You should try URC's remotes. Either the 700, 850, 650...depending on your needs.

Kind of reminds me of the original problems on the TSU1000 when they first came out. (The remote would continually reset). Philips denied the problem for months but would trade you for a refurb unit. They finally came out with a new firmware upgrade that fixed everything (at least for me). It still left a sour taste in my mouth for anything with the Philips name on it. Perhaps we should all band together and not purchase any Philips light bulbs until they admit the backlight problem (as well as the other problems) and come up with a way to resolve it.

Dim backlighting is an issue that plagues all 3000s. The only workable solution is to buy a different device that has good backlighting.

This thread is another one of those that highlights the uneven quality of Philips customer support. I do not understand how a company with Philips resources can allow this situation to exist. I have an image of some guys in Belgium busting their butts to make a great product, only to have their field operation give the company a black eye. I'm sure that one reason so many companies are going after the Pronto market is that Philips is perceived as vulnerable from a support perspective. While you can argue features all day, the truth is that all of these devices are functionally competitive. Support is the real separator.

My dim back light issue has been resolved. No thanks to Phillips! See this thread.

Thanks to the OP for that info. Replacing the chip discussed there took care of it.

Symptom: Touchscreen Unresponsive...with a twist
Date first observed: 2005/08/03
Firmware: v.3.6.7, 5 months +
Emailed Pronto Team: No

Some soft buttons don't work at all, some others inherit macros from other buttons (press one soft button and I see the press/release state transition on another button).

At first, tried battery out, reset: no go. Then by pure coincidence, I pressed the "mute" hard button and everything returned to normal. This happened tonight and 2 nights ago.

Try to top that !

Symptom: ProntoEdit NG bug and instability
Date first observed: 2005/07/15
Firmware: v.3.6.7, 3 weeks
Emailed Pronto Team: yes

PENG seems to be pretty unstable under Win XP Pro, despite which I've managed to write most of my Mark II pcf. However, there's a point beyond which it seems to be a waste of time doing any further work because of the annoying habit PENG has of losing bitmaps. I've reached that point because I am now wasting more time repairing the damage PENG does, than accomplishing anything. Frequent file saves (saves as) and PENG relaunches don't alleviate this.

I'm using the latest available firmware and PENG versions on the European version (the RU950) of the TSU3000.

I look forward to Philips' response to my email...

Best,

Pete

That is actually (in my opinion) the same problem. It has three different manifestations which I believe have the same root cause.

1. Touchpad has severely misalligned calibration such that touching one button activates another on a different part of the screen (what you are seeing)

2. Remote stuck at calibration screen (a specific symptom of #1)

3. Totally unresponsive touchpad (a severe case of #1 to the point where the screen recognizes that it has been touched and lights up in response, but as far as the remote can tell, you haven't actually touched any of the buttons)

Philips, please comment. Where are you Pronto Team?

Was calibrating my projector and it just stopped responding in use. Thought the battery went dead, recharged and still nothing.
Upgraded to lastest firmaware. Nothing.

I have tried f/w upgrade multiple times, sometimes I can get through callibration and if so the only soft button that responds is the pronto setup icon
