That is pretty interesting though... I never realised how many continents broke up before. Interesting stuff though Roddy.

Mr. Stanley: the only problem with what you are saying is that the Kyoto protocol puts limits on all the countries not just the US. Thirld world countries do have more lee-way but they can't do anything they want.

On the other hand I find your point a bit silly. Your basically saying "Why should I not just litter, someone else might do it and for them it might be a whole bag of garbadge that rips open and make more of a mess." Can’t see why that excuses the mess you made today.

I think China can probably do anything they want to do. This is becoming more and more apparent today, after witnessing North Koreas missle launchings, Irans nuclear development to name a few...
Trying to enforec strict environmental standards with some countries will be an uphill battle.

Well, I may have put it in arather simplistic silly way. The point that I was trying to bring up was --- if there were a few countries that became really responable about the matter, there will still be many that will just downplay, deny or ignore the problem due to their economics and inability to upset their economies by placing certain restrictions on pullution generating industries.

...The bottom line in my little twisted mind is -- Is this realisitic - expecting the world powers to all acknowledge we need to slow down the rate of which we are producing flourocarbons and toxins into the environment --- or is it futile? Do we just say aw the heck with it -- what's the use?

I know that sounds ridiculous, and IS ridiculous, but I am wondering if that just might be the way things are going... Will the world turn into a scene from a bad science fiction movie, where we are all stumbling around, poisened, thirsty and out of fuel & water & fighting weach other for basic survival, or can we start making some adjustments now that will help us to have at least a couple hundred livable years on the planet ahead of us?

I'll confess, I don't ride a bike to work, still love
high horsepower cars, and don't plan out my driving or
errands very well & waste a lot of gas in the process
--- but to see in the news where Petrol will start running
around $4.00 a gallon this summer, I wish the world governments
could work a little harder at finding a decent substitue
for Fossil Fuels --- soon, but hell, even our own government
can't seem to work together!!!

I just got some of my Dad's mail today and an environmentalist wanted him/me to donate to the cause because Bush and Cheney are committed to wasting all the open space that remains in the entire U.S. Some place out in New Mexico (isn't that all desert?) should not be available for oil drilling because it might affect the coyotes and I don't know what else.

I like a clean environment like anyone else, but these wackos are so out of balance that we can't drill anywhere, we haven't opened a refinery in CA in 30 years because it's so environmentally impactive and expensive, so why do you think gas is $4/gal? Meanwhile we send billions of U.S. dollars to the madmen in the middle east, $70/barrel at a time, to finance their plans to fly into our buildings. Wouldn't you like to tell them to take their oil somewhere else?

I know that's a topic that is only debatable and won't lead us anywhere, but I'd like to respectfully request tree huggers to back down a little and use some common sense.

The global warming thing is another shock wave.

There's a way of effecting change that sacrifices our freedom. Since we won't easily or quickly give up our freedoms, if we can be scared out of our boots about some world shattering event that "can be averted", all we need to do to avert it is to let the people pitching the solution to take a few of your freedoms away for the good of all...

We are a free people but are losing our freedom bit by bit to government and regulations. It happens so slowly you don't notice. So another bond issue, tax hike, government regulation, etc...tightening the yoke little by little.

...And like I've said earlier --- I AM beginning to look
more clearly into the "Global Warming" issue to see if
it IS just a bunch of Granola Eating / Birkenstock Wearing
/ Greatful Dead fans who are "Spinning" a big line of
B.S.

Well keep reading and report back.

I'm sorry I droned on and rambled seriously.

To be fair, while we haven't built any "new" refineries in quite a while, we have expanded the hell out of the existing ones.

so why do you think gas is $4/gal?

Supply and demand. As we buy more TV's and stuff from China and India, their citizens can afford more cars so demand for oil goes up, supplies get tight and the price soars.

Meanwhile we send billions of U.S. dollars to the madmen in the middle east,
$70/barrel at a time, to finance their plans to fly into our buildings.

But if we drill Anwar and the offshore areas and sell that oil below $70 a barrel aren't we kinda stupid if the going rate is $70 a barrel? The last time gas got above $3 a gallon people curbed their driving, and demand dropped some and then the price of gas dropped. If we increase the supply of oil we lower the price which increases demand and eventually raises the price. It's a vicious circle.

The one thing no one here or really anywhere is talking about is that the real problem is is overpopulation. If the planet reduced it's population by 25% in each country it would solve many problems. Less traffic congestion in the US, lower energy cosumption worldwide, less pollution, fewer guys in the custom business. All good things would happen. I know this could not be done but to me this is the root of most of our problems today.

And closed others. Shell closed their most profitable refinery in Bakersfield. What's going on? I don't know. Bottom line, no one will spend the money to try to open a new refinery because regulatory stuff will bankrupt them before they get it going.

Hold on, what about suppy and demand, as mentioned just a few lines up in your post? We increase the supply, the price will drop.

Not so. It is being noted especially that the price increases in gas have NOT decreased demand as expected. As heard on CBS news, not some crackpot right wing news spout.

Yep, when I was a Junior in High School I received a bad groin injury... Got kicked in the "junk" playing volleyball. I actually went into shock and went unconcious for about 10 - 15 minutes. Let's say that it was a little painful.

20 years of soccer and I never got kicked in the junk, how in the heck does one pull this off in a game using ones hands.

I don't know, I hope we can fix stuff and make sure the world gets bette. The question is are we willing to make the sacrefice needed. I just thought that your whole point of we should not take care of what we do because someone else mighht make a mess sounded funny. If anything I think we should be pioneers showing the way, instead of we should not go with ythe plan because someone else might not.

I was going up to spike the ball, when my pal jumped up as well, and in his exhuberance, kicked up his leg, which connected with my junk.

Now, I have been thrown through a windshield before, lost a finger, fallen off a roof from two stories... but NOTHING was was as painful as that! I was rolling around in mass pain & my teammates thought I was joking, then I passed out. When I came to I jsut remember looking up at this circle of team mates around staring down at me...
God it hurts to even think about it now!
