My favorite line: "We have a stake in [America's] survival and its success and we ought to nurture it, not bring it to its knees or delight in its misfortunes."

I love that Europe still claims some active paternal stake in the US after a few hundred years, as their own native-born populations shrink under low birthrates and immigration, and as our own country increasingly reflects the cultures of its more recent non-European immigrants.

Europes's preoccupation with the US says much more about its own deep feelings of self-loathing than anything else. The last 100 years in Britain have been particularly bad. They lost their empire and generation of their citizens after WWI, their wealth and another generation after WWII, and are now largely irrelevant as a power on the world stage. Someone over there with an working pair of testes needs to start working aggressively on their own problems and leave ours to us.

No, I'm not wrong. You, like Wesley, refuse to respond to repeated questions challenging your assertions. You feel that "I heard it somewhere, don't remember where, but I leave the assertion for you as fact" is good enough to support your end of a debate. Not so. Just because Thon says it is so does not make it so. A lively debate, based on supportable facts, is a lovely thing. An argument, based on faith, tearing down the other sides position with character attack, or assertions of a profit motive, are useless and get no one anywhere. I don't get a debate from you, only an argument. I gave up arguing when I realized that I only have a finite number of days left on this world, and want to spend them in a positive way.

Sheesh, I'm really beginning to sound like Alan.

Ed, am I missing something? For the first time i have actually been bothered to read a (reasonably lengthy) link out of the forum on a side topic. I read that piece and didn't really find it anti-american. I think the journo was actually making a good case for the US.

Were not all against you ya know.........

Sometimes i wish it was more like it over here. I would love to sit on my porch with a cigar and a tall bells/coke, but I would likely get stared at by people passing 6 feet from me in the street, freeze or have a crowd of schoolkids chuck stones at me.
Sticking to what I'm good at.

That could well be Ed, except he's about twelve feet from the sidewalk. Throwing stones is less likely than a spray of gunfire; he lives in the city. :-)

No, I'm not wrong. You, like Wesley, refuse to respond
to repeated questions challenging your assertions.

You are the only one making assertions. To re-cap: 1) the earth is getting warmer and 2) humans (specifically wealthy, white, american, males) are directly responsible. My response was simply that the earth has displayed cyclical temperature changes throughout history including extended periods where combution engines did not exist. I don't believe this to be in question. If you need specific references read the other posts on this thread, specifically the references from ChrisMc. You are the one who has failed to prove your argument.

Sheesh, I'm really beginning to sound like Alan.

This statement alone should be enouugh to make you question your sanity.
