I have been trying to setup my RFX9600. I haven't had luck. The extender detector just keeps searching and doesn't find the extender. I have hooked up the laptop to the RFX directly and used the browser setup. It is set to HDCP. Should it be set to a fixed IP? Perhaps I simply don't understand my network set up well enough. My TSU9600 is successfully communicating with my network via the wireless access point, based on the fact that it says it is communicating and can run my Escient Fireball.
I have the system properties set up to use the extender. I have the ID on the back of the extender and the ID in the properties set to "0". In the setup I have tried it with the extender IP address and without the address. I have connected an IR emitter to an output on the back and then selected that IR output and the extender in a device and tried sending IR commands to that device. However, my panel simply says, "command failed". Can anyone help walk me through this? Thanks, Marc

Marc, I would change the ID on the extender. When I was working with a 9400 recently, which would not connect, I changed the ID to 1 and back to 0 and all of a sudden, it began working fine. Not sure if it was not really set to 0, but once I switched it to 1 and then back to 0, it began working fine. Dave

Does your ethernet led burn green? Ifso you should be able to check your dhcp clients table and find the ip of the last client or search for the macaddress, then you can check if it's there with your browser. Finding extenders using the pronto pro software didn't work here either, I just added the extenders with there id's on the systemspage properties. On my rfx 9600 the 0 id seemed broken, when putting the id from 1 to 0 the id remained 1. When putting it from 1 to 2 it changed. So I'm using 1 a.t.m. If you have a router or gateway please tell the important parameters (skip the wireless settings because the pronto is already connected). Mine as a sample: DHCP Server: Enabled Max DHCP Clients: 50 I need to know your setup, as an example mine is on the bottom of this post, please write down yours. Any connection inside a device is left to right, external connection are top to bottom. Dave Thanks for the advice. I switched from, and back to, "0". I also tried switching it to "1" and leaving there. It didn't help. Marc

It seems like you have network issues! You must configure the RFX9600 with your programming computer: use the cross cable to establish communication. If need it, verify that your computer optain IP address from DHCP. Change the IP address to one that is compatible with your gateway. Place it on the network and type the new IP address on your browser. You should be able to see the RFX9600 set up page. If that is correct, verify that the TSU9600 and all the components are in the same network!

avtech, Based on previous responses, I'm not sure that Marc fully understands networking. Mark, is there anyone (a friend) who can read the techie stuff here and get you up and running? In the meantime, Follow avtech's instructions for connecting with the cross-connect cable to a PC. When I did this, I had to must choose an IP such as 192.168.1.204 - make sure it does not conflict with the IP address of the RFX9600 (printed on label), a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and then specify a gateway address of 192.168.1.0. This will allow the ethernet adapter in the PC and the RFX9600 to talk. At this point, you should be able to open a web browser, type the IP address of the RFX9600, and then see the web page. If you have not done this already, you should also be aware that with the latest TSU9600 firmware, there's an equivalent Extender firmware package you should be running. If you did not upgrade both as a matched set, then this may be where your problem lies.

Marc,
Would you mind explaining what you did in case others have the same issue?
Thanks, Lyndel

You were correct that my primary issue was not knowing networking well. I used the Windows networking diagnostic tool to determine my network parameters. With the laptop directly connected to the RFX9600 I then configured the extender with the subnet mask and gateway. I assigned an IP address to it that was close to, but different from, existing IP addresses. In the Pronto Pro config file system properties setup for the extender I then entered that same IP address.
It now works. However, it isn't consistant. When it works it's great. I have it controlling a few IR devices thus far and yesterday set up one device via RS232. However, not infrequently it says "command failed" when I press a button on the panel. If I wait a short while, or keep trying, it usually starts working. Obviously, that won't be adequate. Could it be my access point? I am considering trying a new wireless router. Any thoughts? Marc

I had a similar issue last week. In the living room, I already had a WAP that connects to the router in the bedroom. The WAP is behind the TV and was successfully connnecting to the bedroom router but sometimes things were a bit slow. My wife put up a set of Scandia Shelving in the bedroom where my router is. Unfortunately, she put them up on the wall between the bedroom and the living room and things went totally amiss. Result - I got weaker WIFI to the TSU9600. I could no longer sit on the couch and connect the TSU9600 to either the router or the WAP. Almost pulled what hair I have left out.
I tried 2 things.
1. A Linksys antenna extender to put the router antenna near the ceiling in the bedroom. (better but still not working reliably)
2. Purchased the $50 7db high gain antenna for the router (Bingo). Then, I connected the antenna extender to the WAP to be able to move the antennas into line of sight so that the TSU9600 could connect reliably.
The end result of #2 was that I can now walk pretty much anywhere in the house and get reliable WIFI to the TSU9600 and also have better link speed (fewer errors) on the DVDM-100 and my Media PC. All in all, although I spent around $80USD to make this work, it was worth it in the time and complaining it saves.

Thanks for the info. I have someone coming in a couple of hours to set up a new access point for me. I'm told it should have better range/coverage. I hope that will be adequate. If you have any other suggestions or tips that I can communicate to him, please let me know ASAP. The new wireless router I purchased for him to set up is the Linksys WRT54GX2 wireless-G router with SRX200.
In case it is important, here's what I presently have:
I have a cable modem (Cisco uBR900 series) connected to a firewall unit (WatchGuard Firebox SOHO6) that then is connected to a 16 port router/switch (3Com Office Connect Dual Speed Switch 16 plus). Connected into that switch is my wireless access point (Dlink DWL-700AP ... to be replaced with the new router) and also the RFX9600. I also have multiple other things into that switch including lines that lead to other PC's in the house, the Escient Fireball and my Netstreams Digilinx audio distribution system.
Thanks, Marc

Lyndel,
Along these lines, when beta testing, did you get a chance to ask the Pronto team to better explain the time out setting for the wireless network?
I have been a bit confused by the "set network time out" settings:
If you set it for 2 hours, would the network time out after two hours?
Therefore, if you want the network to Never Time out, do you set it to 24 hours?
This was one of the key issues with the Nevo SL and wireless networking, back over a year ago. It turned out if you set it to "Never" Time out, it was the best setting. "Never" time out, which eventually turned out to be the very best setting, was greatly mis-understood.
It seems the Pronto menu settings are a bit hard to comprehend and may be causing the same problems as the early Nevo SL settings (over 1 year ago).
If you want the network connection to never time out, what is the correct setting, "24 hours"? The Pronto Team should add "Never" to the list of time out options.
Thx Dave

I've asked the ProntoTeam to please comment on this thread. They have indicated that the Philips FAQ will be updated with information on this topic. It may take a day or so so you might want to check their FAQ for updates.
