Newbie here!!

MX 780
MRF 350 w RFX 250

I sold my client a Denon 4520 to replace their Marantz 7005.

When I programmed the MX780 the AVR "ON" button would not
work in RF ...only IR line of sight. All other commands work no
problem with RF.

To test I made a file with only the ON and OFF commands and set the MRF 350
etc.

The MRF 350 is hooked up directly from IR Output port 1 to the AVR IR
control In.

Tried the different hex codes from the AVR 4520 IR Code PDF
All worked except the ON command

Changed the RF ID on the 350 and in CCP

Checked for interference on ID 0....none

Tried learning the command instead of converting it with Denon
Pronto Hex Converter

Tried setting it to RF only and IR&RF

Used Blaster 1 and IR emitter

When I press the ON button both Leds light up on the 250 & 350

I do not have another remote to see if it behaves the same way

Any thoughts?

What are your repeat levels set to?

Have you tried wrapping that command in a short delay (say .3) via an alias?

Have you messed with the pot levels on that ports?

Things like this seem to plague URC every once in a while. Usually there's two ways to skin a cat though to get it working.

I tried different repeats right up to 10

I will play with the port level on the 350

Thanks

Have you tried turning the Denon's network standby to On? I believe in the other receivers it's set to Off by default so that the AVR will meet Energy Star requirements when it's idling. I don't know if the Energy Star low power idle disables the rear IR port on that receiver when it's turned off.

I have "Auto Standby" set to off the only other options are 60mins 90mins.

I will try setting it to 60 mins

I guess the turn on command has to be tweaked a little.

The Marantz was never an issue.

Have you tried using a discrete "On" command form another Denon AVR in the URC IRDB (XX12 series or even earlier)?

I have 2 4520 units coming early this week and will be using a MX1200 on one, and a MX980 on the other. Both systems will be using RF base stations.

IR port gain may also yield results for you.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

I have played with the port gain to no avail and even
changed ports

It looks like 1324 is the most popular Denon code set
in the database. I have tried some other ones.

have you tried to use a regular emitter on the front of the denon?  maybe something is messed up with the rear ir port.

I was thinking this too, but he did say he used the blaster. Obviously that is not as reliable, but should work if placed properly. I think the real fix starts with a Y and ends in a A ;-)

i thought he was talking about the front blaster, not an emitter.

and i fail to see what Jedi Master Yoda has to do with this.  :)

I think he was talking about the front blaster. I was saying that if properly placed, the front blaster SHOULD work the same as an emitter as far as transmitting the IR code. The blaster is unreliable at best, so I would still do as you suggested and place an emitter on the front.

Used Blaster 1 and IR emitter

I take that to mean he has tried both the front blaster AND an IR emitter on the front of the Denon.

What I haven't seen him reply back about is aliasing the known working power on command (that works fine via line of site) in a macro wrapped in a short delay, or even double or triple hitting the command in a macro. That often works with stubborn commands.

I have the AVR back at the shop so I tried the front blaster and it
will turn the AVR off but not on. When I hold the emitter in front
it will not turn the AVR off so I am playing with the gain.

I will try a macro with some delay as suggested

The first emitter did not work but the second emitter turned the Denon
ON and OFF!!

The front blaster and hooking direct to the AVR with the IR In still will not turn it on.

I tried a macro of hitting it 2 and 3 times with various delays with the 350 hooked
up direct to the AVR to no avail

Is this a Denon or a 350 issue?

Thanks for all the input
