I create a macro that turns on my Pioneer DVD-434 DVD player. However, the macro turns on the player then turns it off immediately within 1-2 seconds.

What gives??? It seems like the macro sends the on/off signal TWICE in a row!

Does anyone have this problem?

Is your DVD player plugged into your reciever? (it could be powering on when the reciever comes on then going into standby because its not on long enough to get the power signal)
You can use "play" as discrete on.
Relearn your power button.
dont press the power button so hard when using it in your macro.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

No, I plug my DVD player directly into a separate outlet.

BTW, what do you mean by "play as discrete on"?

I delete the exiting Power button of the DVD player and re-programmed it a 2nd time with a "light" touch but the problem still persists!

I've just deleted the exiting Power button of the DVD player and re-programmed it a 2nd time with a "light" touch but the problem still persisted!

Most DVD players will come on when you press the play button. If your Pioneer does this, then substitute the play button for the power button.

If the macro works with a learned power command but not with the programmed power command, as you said in another thread, just use the learned command. Teach it to any unused key (you can take any screen you are not using and use it to learn buttons like this to be used in macros), and put that key in the macro.

We usually see the power command problem when turning the component off, and then it turns on again, but this is the first time I remember seeing it turn on and then off. Sometimes it is just the command itself, sometimes it is the way the macro is loaded.

Sorry that I posted message in a wront thread! Anyway, I tried your suggestion to learn the DVD power using another key other than DVD "Power" of the 3000, then programmed a macro to execute this new power key. The macro did indeed turn the DVD player on, but not off. If I pressed the macro a 2nd time, the DVD player turned off then on again!

What's the difference between teaching a power signal to a power key and a non-power key? Why would the macro can't turn on the device with the device's own power key but does it with another key? (but then won't turn it off!)

There seems to be a few quirks with the 3000 so far...

You will probably have to make another macro to turn the DVD off. As I said, turning off and then on again has happened to others, with many different brands, so we don't really know what is causing it, but it is not a common problem.

It shouldn't make a difference if you "teach" the power command to a power key or another key; the main difference is that it is a learned command and not a preprogrammed command, which I guess sometimes makes a difference.

Granted, there are a few "quirks" with the 3000, but overall it is a superior remote. Once you get over the initial hurdles you will really appreciate it.

I did make another macro and taught a different key the power button of my DVD player but still the macro wouldn't turn off the player. It turned the player off then on immediately!

I guess I'm at a loss here paying for a remote of this caliber which can't turn off a simple device using a simple macro.

Thanks for all your help.

I finally got the macro to turn off my Pioneer DVD player. I had to reset all the learned buttons and use the preset code "0004" for Pioneer DVD player. The macro then works both ways turning the player's power on and off.

WEIRD STUFF!
