O.K., I'm seriously bumming!

Got a TSU-3000 yesterday. Loaded the software into Virtual PC, and the PC recognizes the Pronto via USB UNTIL I START PRONTO EDIT!

Anyone have experience using Pronto Edit on a Mac with Virtual PC?

The forums so far searched only talk about the older version of Pronto Edit and the older Prontos. This one has USB built in and different software.

sepstein, the 3000 has only been out about a week, most of us have never played with it. On the other hand the Prontos (1000,2000) have been out for 3-4 years you cannot expect the same info on both

Umm do you realize that we had no clue that the tsu-3000 was even coming out this week?
And that we've only been working with ProntoEdit NG for about a month. And find it very buggy. And besides, all of us who come here everyday. Do NOT have the 3000. So no one will be able to help you for a while. We can only give you hints, but since this is a brand new remote and software. We really can't tell you what to do.

Honestly, I don't even think that Mr. Allen, who wrote tonto. Will even want to touch this new software. Only because of the USB connection.

The only thing that I can tell you. Is to make sure the remote is on before you down/upload. Best way to do this. Is to press and hold the backlight button before you start the download. And wait until the pc says "downloading" or whatever it says.

Hints:
Make sure USB is enabled in the Win"x" Virtual PC Preferences, and that a device appears in the list, if you don't see it... I don't know... maybe you'll need drivers for the remote in the Mac so Virtual PC can make it visible in windows (wich I am sure there are no such drivers).

What OS are you using?

You can try a USB adapter that has Mac drivers and then connect the Pronto there and the VPC will recognize the adaptor and then the Pronto...

Well I can't think of more solutions for now...

If you are using OS9 try using OSX.2 and VPC6.0.1

Thank you for the suggestions!

Yes, I know this is a very new remote, and bugs need to be worked out - that's why i'm posting!

Tonto is likely not coming to Pronto Edit NG according to the Tonto website.

I tried holding on the backlight to upload - no dice.

Tried OS9 and OS X versions of Virtual PC - no dice. The PC recognizes the Pronto in the USB settings panel, but the Pronto Edit NG software doesn't recognize the Pronto when attempting a connection.

Any hints?

1) there is the USB 1.1 standard and the USB 2.0 standard, are you sure that the PC and Pronto are using the same kind?

2) don't know if comports are relevant, but have you tried changing it

Good thought about USB 2.0. I have a card, and tried connecting through that. Didn't work.

Seems that I can select the Pronto in the USB settings, click "OK," but then the Virtual PC loses that setting. I'm not sure why - I'm going to start troubleshooting that within the Mac community.

This seems to be a Virtual PC problem for sure - was able to connect to a real PC earlier today running Windows Me.

I realize it hasn't been very long, but do you have any updates or solutions to your VPC problem? Also, what version of VPC and Windows are you using? I have both VPC 5 and 6 to test it on and I'm running Windows Me.

My 3000 should be here tomorrow and I am a bit concerned since it won't work properly for you.

What happens when you check the box next to the USB device in the PC's settings. Does it uncheck automatically after you hit 'OK'? Also, what kind of hardware and which versions of OS 9 and OS X are you using.

Anymore details you can give to help solve this would be appreciated.

I have tried both Virtual PC 5 and 6, under OS 9 and X, running Windows 98SE and XP.

Yes, the USB box does "uncheck" itself after I close the dialog box to check it.

Virtual PC does not support every USB device, and I'm not sure about the Pronto. Let me know what settings you are trying, and if you are having success.

Ok. I got my remote and installed the software from the disc to VPC 6 in OS9 with Win98. All went fine, VPC recognizes the pronto but Win98 needs drivers for the remote to be recognized... Those drivers aren't in the CD.

I too am having problems with The TSu3000 and virtual pc 6.0.1
I am unable to connect to the remote however I found a way to prevent the enabled remote in pc settings form being unchecked.

Heres what to do; plug the prontong into your usb port start virtual pc and check the pronto- close the dialog box then start your pc and launch PENG- if you check the settings you will see that it will still show 1 device enabled- I still wasn't able to upload or download but I thought is was a step in the right direction.

If anyone can come up with a workaround for virtual pc I would be very greatful

Willy.

I have read through this thread and it sounds like maybe one of you can help me with my problem. I am running Windows ME and have been trying to get PENG to connect to my Pronto NG for 5 days. I have tried every suggestion short of buying Windows XP. I even bought a USB PCI card, installed that and I still can't get a connection. Philips support says it is a problem with my computer and they can't help me. I installed the software on a friends computer (runnning windows 98)and it worked like a charm. If there is a driver like the one quoted above can someone tell me where I can get it? I am about ready to pull my hair out trying to get this thing to work. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phillip

I have spent all day trying to get it to work with VPC601. Same problems as everyone else. VPC doesn't seem to see the device although the computer does. I am going to exchange the device tomorrow and try again. There are other issues with the device itself and just maybe, the device might be the problem. God, I hate the PC experience.
