Hi all,

I love my Pronto and I absolutely rely on it for the last 20yrs! However, the touchscreen just stopped responding to presses on my drawn buttons. The physical buttons work, even tapping on the screen wakes it up (so the capacitive touch screen must be working?). I've tried the reset underneath and recycling the batteries and its boots up giving me the double beep, but then nothing else other than the physical buttons. I've tried to touch the top left corner to try to activate the screen calibration, but nothing happens.

What else can I try to do?

I see some YouTube videos (with a newer TSU3000) about taking it apart and cleaning the touchscreen contacts - but if I can tap to wake the screen/backlighting, doesn't that mean the touchscreen is actually responsive?

Any suggestions would help? (even suggestions on a decent replacement - it would have to be something that can replicate all the buttons of all the remotes I have to replace - not just an events based macro system)

This Pronto is so amazing that it has lasted me from 21" Sony Trinitron with Betamax, through sVHS, Laserdiscs to PS4 with Panasonic 1080p Projector - I just love that it grew with me through all my systems. I will be very sad to see this go...

Try finding one on Ebay. Does the unit still beep upon a download?

Yep, I managed to find my old WindowsXP laptop and got a USB to serial cable and managed to hook it up to ProntoEdit4 and it communicates (uploads & downloads) fine. When I reboot/reset it does the double beep. Everything seems to work, the physical buttons all cycle through my CCF files correctly. Its only the touch screen that doesn't seem to register any presses. I've even downloaded back the original factory default CCF file and its all there, but the touchscreen doesn't respond. I wonder if the pin in the orange connector ribbon (YouTube videos on reviving TSU-3000 models) to the touchscreen would work for this model?

Cables are not interchangeable.

I can't recall if the screen is soldered to the main board on that model.

You might get a T6 torx and remove the screws from the battery area and there may be others under the sticker on the back. It's been so long since I checked.

You might search this forum for replace screen to see if you can find more hints.

Check this are reseat the cables.

There’s some instructions on taking the screen out on the TS1000 in the old FAQ: [Link: remotecentral.com]

Thanks Daniel. I'd forgotten that that link was there.

Thanks so much for that FAQ!!! So useful. I did take apart and couldn't see anything wrong. I wonder if applying a pin to poke the LCD connector ribbon would help as I've seen in the YouTube videos for the newer model? In the meantime I managed to find a working TS1000 on ebay for $10 (I can't believe it) and have ordered that and have successfully re-downloaded my saved CCF file to the new one and everything works again. (until this screen dies which I'm dreading). Funny, my family had always complained that my Pronto was too complicated to operate until the last few weeks when I had all the remotes out - now they're happy to have it back and working! I've done a lot of research on updated alternatives and can't believe there really isn't anything out there with a touchscreen that we can program ourselves. I'd love an updated touchscreen with wifi/bluetooth to operate PS3/PS4 for my blu-rays! What are people using when their Pronto's die?
