the reason that i like this idea is because many people keep the units in a different room or behind doors. this was not intended for everyone. The post was acctually mainly for Swamp who stated that he did not like the fact that the unit was behind a door and it would keep hitting the door everytime. Sorry for the confusion.

Neil . . . Buddy!, my but you certainly seem to
like stepping on toes, don't you?

Both ways work, one's no better than the other.
I prefer to use the EJECT route - personal preference.
Only offered as an example to clarify what I was
talking about.

Everybody's got their own opinion, mine's no better
than yours, and vice-versa.

Here's a thought on DVD players that are toads:

Check to see if they have a "timer" feature. If so, plug it into the back of your receiver (preamp...whatever). What this feature does is as follows...when power is given to the DVD, it turns on and starts to play. If you have this feature, just make sure to take the DVD out of the unit, so that next time the dvd turns on but doesn't play anything. Turn on your receiver and you've just turned on your DVD.

This will not work with DSS, D. Cable Boxes, VCR, mainly because they have memory (clock, timers, satellite signal locks, etc.)

Add the Sony DVP-C600D DVD Changer

Jeff,
are you sure about the Sony DVD changer? I have a DVP CX860 (300 Disc changer) and the discretes from this site work just fine...?

I've noticed that the Mitsubishi HS-U62 VCR is on the "Toad" list. I have just posted a device ccf for the HS-U62 that includes discete on and a timer on/off toggle that I found this afternoon using ProntoUtil, irTools and irPanel. Unfortunatley, I could not find a discrete off. For "Off", I use the "On" discrete and then the power toggle. The codes are for the VCR 1 mode.

On:
0000 0082 0000 0011 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 001d 000a 033f

Timer Record Toggle:
0000 0082 0000 0011 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 0044 000a 001d 000a 001d 000a 001d 000a 033f

An addition. Just to be more specific on the Toshibas, the VCR model M-656 I have not been able to find any discrete codes for.

That's not quite true anymore. Toshiba's H and HX/HDX RPTV's (among other models) do appear to have a working discrete on and off. Looking at the owners manuals online, I see they've also been designed so it is possible, using a two key sequence, to change inputs semi-discretely. You are also able to, using a two key sequence, change stretch modes. There may be others. I think Toshiba's engineers have finally seen the light. OK, they're not true discretes (except for ON/OFF) but they are very useable workarounds (I have no trouble getting the Pronto to output two codes instead of one).
I think the ON/OFF workaround for the SD3750 is quite Pronto friendly as well. Much better than my Panny RV31.
Just to be safe, I am going shopping with a Pronto in hand. LOL??

Add to list:
Kenwood 200-CD Changer CD-2260M
Panasonic SVHS VCR PV-S7670

There is a second Power On code on the Discrete code list that worked for me but the Power off didn't though.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

I believe that all of the Dish Network receivers
are toads.

Side note: Most Toshiba DVD players, though they
can be classified as toads, can usually use the
play/stop or open tray example above for a modified
discrete code...

The Power On and Power Off codes on the Discrete List worked for my Dish Network 501 PVR
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

i'd like to nominate the pioneer vsx-9900s receiver as a toad lacking discrete on and off. this seems to be the only pioneer receiver ever made that does not respond correctly to the standard pioneer discrete on and off.

on the bright side, it has discrete input selections.
