After programming my Pronto, I noticed that the 'on' buttons associated with my Pioneer gear either did not work or at best worked sporatically. However, if I used 'on' in a macro, it worked perfectly-- also if I taught Pronto the 'on/off' function to any other button it also worked perfectly. Hmmm. Tech support had no ideas.

Last night, on a whim, I decided to relabel the 'on' buttons. They then worked perfectly. I tried various labels (text, symbols, etc.) and each time they worked perfectly. I then relabeled them back to 'on' and they didn't work!

Keep in mind that this only had to do with Pioneer gear. Other gear worked with the default 'on.' Now, all my 'on' buttons are labeled with a symbol.

Anyone else seen anything like this? I called the support line back and informed them of my solution.

Sounds more like a "slightly" corrupted config file, and renaming those buttons (rewriting the file) corrected the problem. Though I haven't experienced it myself, a few folks have reported this rare phenominum.

Sounds very much like a problem I had learning the power command for my DVD player. I could program any other button to be power on/off except the one I intended. I don't remember if I tried relabling, but I did try deleting and recreating the button with no success. I eventually had to delete and recreate the entire template to get it to work.

Apparently it is possible to corrupt the config file under certain situations to the point where the Pronto will exhibit this sort of behavior. Thankfully, it sounds like the ProntoEdit software will provide a mechanism to keep a working backup on a PC.

Well, maybe I do experience something similar. If I just touch an On or Off button long enough to get the Pronto to beep (slight tap), the command often does not work. However, if I "press and hold" slightly longer it works flawlessly. Haven't figured out why yet; waiting for the software (who isn't?).

It doesn't look like ProntoEdit will be able to correct a corrupted file, but you will be able to back up working copies in case one should ever "break".

Now I think of it, when I first tried the Pronto I had a little glitch where the "7" button on my VCR's tuner sometimes sent out "9". No, I wasn't miss-pressing, but the problem hasn't occurred since I re-programmed that button.

I haven't had any problems in *quite* a long time now.

I hope the new PC software includes some new software for the unit itself or hopefully soon after.
