It is a bit irritating that UEI doesn't provide much information for potential buyers. I understand that they want you to go through the dealers but I have a lot of questions that I'm sure would be answered by a look at the manuals. Also I'm still waiting for a response from the nearest authorized dealer. I don't know how long that will take.

I would be grateful if someone were kind enough to post a pdf of the manual.

A few basic questions:
1. CPU speed? It will need to be pretty good to run the Olive Opus music server remote interface that I need. A Nokia N800 doesn't do too well. A modern laptop does fine.

2. Actual dimensions of the trouch screen. I know they say it is 3 1/2 inches but I assume that is the diagonal.

3. Can the browser image be rotated?

4. Can the broswer image be magnified?

Thanks for any help.

I understand your frustration. They really do seem to want the end-user to be dumb and blind and just buy the product. Get this: there is no "user" manual of the sort you describe! Seriously. They don't want/expect the owner to have all those questions, and if we do, we should ask our installer. Period.

I believe the Nevo business model is that the dealer/installer answers ALL the sales questions, makes ALL the sales, does ALL the programming, and simply shows the user which buttons to push. If anything needs to be changed or tweaked, you're supposed to call your installer to do that for you. It's the least consumer-friendly CE manufacturer I've personally dealt with..... But I do like the remotes.

Here are the features they list for the S70:

NevoS70 offers a fully customizable IR / RF solution for the custom installation professional.
Key features include:

* Fully customizable 64K color 3.5”, 320x240 touch screen
* Z-Wave / WiFi / IR enabled for advanced home control
* Z-Wave is a 2 way protocol enabling sent commands to be acknowledged by NevoConnect and resent automatically if acknowledgement is not received.
* With NevoConnect NC-50 base station, NevoS70 is capable of 1 way serial (RS-232) control
* With 802.11g WiFi and embedded IP browser NevoS70 is capable of integration with IP Cameras, browser interfaces in addition to displaying web content on the remote.
* Multi-remote multiple base station configurations.
* Field replaceable battery
* 17 programmable hard keys

Don't have the S70 myself, so I can't measure it for you. But it's 3.5" diagonally, and 240x320 pixels. A little "forensic math" should do the trick....

LOL. That's a contradiction in terms, no?? A "user manual" that's not available to users.....

Yeah, but again, the actual user gets squat! Correction...a four-page "Quick Start Guide" with two pages of, um, "info." I think the point, what jack D and I are both annoyed about, is this apparent attitude that the person who actually buys and uses the remote should know as little about it as possible.

Hi,

Hmmm, I can kind of see your point.

The product sheets on the website are different the sheets we have to give our customers...

I'll talk to my contact and see if the site can be updated.

But...

But this is a completely customizable product. Apart from the clearly labeled hard buttons every remote will behave differently as each program is different. This is why they call the "manual" a "design guide".

Ok it is a design guide but, again, the point is that some of us find Nevo's approach to be a turn off. I still might buy one of these but it will be in spite of the company.

They provide virtually no information upon which to base an intellegent purchase decision. The dealer network seems a bit patchy in the sense that--at least from what I've seen--the entire DC metro area is not covered and the dealers seem not to be very flexible. The dealer I have dealt with is willing to provide virtually no information and wants to charge for a block of 5 hours tech time even if I just want to ask a few questions. It's like they are targeting people with more money than brains. Maybe that works but maybe if they were a bit more flexible they would get more sales?

Ok using Pythagorean theorem and assuming the 240x320 tells us the relative size of the two sides, the dimensions of the touch screen are 2.8"H x 2.1"W, which surprises me. It actually seems a bit on the smallish side.

Not to me. The screen on the Q50 is just slightly less than 2" square. Remember, these are meant to be one-handed remotes, so their screens shouldn't be compared to the screens of, say, the two-handed Prontos.
