What exactly to you want to do? Do you just mean using a CAT5 cable to extend cable length, or use an alternate termination? If you just mean replacing the stock cable with CAT5, I think it should work and have thought of doing this myself (to combine and clean up some of those annoying little cables).

i just really want to extend the length of the cable so for instance if i want to keep the nevo connect under a users couch, and all the equipment is in a far off closet somewhere else in the house . . that way the remote still has great reception, and all the signal get sent to closet via cat5 extensions (splicing etc)
or am i better off keeping nevo connect in the closet and just running an external antenna to the couch area . .

Generally speaking, I'm reluctant to extend antennas alone, as it tends to cause more problems than it solves in many cases. That said, I've never tried it with the Nevo Connect, so maybe someone who's tried it could chime in.
In terms of using CAT5 cable, the way I thought about using it was more about simple cable management. I hate all those wiry little cables back there. Each CAT5 could run the feeds for a blaster and two serial modules, for example. I don't need to extend length, as the existing cables are too long already, but I'd just like to clean things up.
It seems to me that you could use CAT5 the same way if you want to place the NevoConnect near the couch. If you had to run under carpet, you could even use flat cable.
Would it be possible to place the NevoConnect somewhere up near the screen? That's usually a handy location, as it's easy to hide there and you already have cabling running to the equipment rack.

i would connect it behind the screen or near a couch . . i usually have cat5 run everywhere on my projects so i try to hide the rf base nearby and hidden so they have better reception and its still out of site ..
i already know i can extend emitters and rs232, but im really curious if anyone has tried this with the Video Sensor Cables . .

ok since no one could answer my question . .
i tried it myself.
i extended the video sensor with car5 . . works perfectly...
it takes 2 pairs and it worked with 3M buttons
so now its confirmed . . you can extend emitters , video sensors , and rs232 via cat5 ..
now i just keep nevo connect behind the tv instead of in the equipment closet to give better reception users ..

Thanks for the update. I think any multi-wire cable (preferably color-coded) would work for these types of applications. Thermostat cable or even HDMI would work as well.
So is it your plan to place the NC-50 behind the TV and run just one or two CAT5 cables from there to the equipment stack, then terminate there with the appropriate serial/video/emitter modules?

1st . . you've extended hdmi by splicing with cat5? ive extended hdmi with baluns but never with splicing . .
2nd . . precisely . . sending 2 or 3 extra cat 5's from tv to remotely located equipment stack and keep the base behind the tv.
this was my solution for harmon remotes and RF base , and its now my solution for nevo as well . .
having the base local to the user really helps as ive noticed a few of my clients have been having connection issues with their nevo connect . .
interference may be from the wifi and nevo connect being right next to eachother, but that usually is the case, so from now on, do it right the first time and put it behind tv or under couch etc . . thats what im doing from now on . .

and ive heard for rs 232 i can use db9 - rj45 adapters (anyone actually try this?) I use cat5 with RJ-12 to DB-9 adaptors for all of my serial cable connections. This is the fastest/cleanest way to make a serial cable IMO and i have never had any issues.

Excellent suggestion! I just griped earlier today on another thread about how non-standard the connectors are. Changing them all to RJ-45 sounds like a great idea- and those adapter are easy to come by.
