i ran into some Nevo reps at an expo by me last week. according to them, z-wave is only supported for routing messages at this point. there is no controlling of z-wave devices. they suggested that function would be available late Q1 08 although their documentation seems to imply it is supported now.

does anyone know which z-wave command classes will be fully supported? i am looking for a good handheld z-wave thermostat remote. right now i can only use a zth100 which has an outdated UI. it's the only z-wave remote that fully supports the thermostat command class as of yet.

also, will it support secondary as well as primary remote? primary shift, routing changes, manual node removal, etc.

Folks,

Nevo Q50 is available now at $699. NevoConnect is just becoming available at $299 (both are a very nice products). I have the Q50 in my theater on IR and it is working very well.

S70 remote (next gen Nevo SL) will be available in January 2008. Will support Zwave as well as Wi-Fi.

Not sure about the comment made earlier if the Q50 will support other Zwave devices. I saw one controlling lights at CEDIA in September.

I will need to check with my sources to see if it can control other zWave devices.

thanks dave. definitely interested in it if it has full z-wave thermostat control. harmony and monster also make universal remotes with z-wave lighting control if people are interested in only basic z-wave/ir functionality. i think they price out at around $200-300 also.

i have not tested them but a rep i met told me it only routes z-wave messages as of right now as a slave. this was in october. maybe they were using a beta not the retail version? either that or the rep was wrong. please let me know the exact extent of z-wave implementation if you can from your sources. more specifically which command classes does it fully support? i appreciate it.

Yes, I have heard the same from Nevo directly. At the current state of firmware, the Q50 will not control native Zwave devices. Something for future upgrades perhaps?

from an early post a couple up...

if it does not control native z-wave devices how was it controlling the lights? i am confused. were they non z-wave lights or something?

Sorry about the confusing post. I talked with a contact at UEI the other day. They were demonstraing lighting via RS-232 not Zwave.
