New Nevo

It looks like Universal Electronics will be "leaking" information on their new Nevo products. Their latest ad and a dedicated web page at www.mynevo.com/nextgen show two remotes on the bottom corners of the page. The remote in the lower left looks very similar to the current Nevo SL (pictured in center) with th exception of a new button and possibly the omission of the "soft" buttons just below the LCD screen. The remote on the right is much more interesting with at least four new visible buttons and a smaller screen. Looks like this is going to be a new hard button controller for the new line of Nevo products.

I just noticed that the ad was in my copy of Residential Systems (for the month of May) on page 51.

I went to the "Next gen Nevo" website Jim mentions above. When looking at the picture of the remote on the left, Jim is right in that it looks like Universal Electronics left out the buttons beneath the screen. But I looked at the touch screen and it appears that there are still lables for the buttons at the bottom of the screen; just like the old version of the NevoSL.

I saved the picture from the website and started playing around with it in PaintShop Pro. Since the photo is fairly dark, I started playing around with the contrast and brightness settings and came up with this:

As you can see, there definitely appears to be outlines of hard buttons beneath the screen (thank God they didn't leave them out). On a side note, you'll also notice what looks like a finger or something near the bottom right of the picture that you could not see in the un-altered version of the picture and I definitely did not add it... creepy. :-p

I always thought the NevoSL was bar far the best looking custom remote out there and I'm glad to see that they are sticking with the same design scheme for the next gen stuff.

Does anyone know any details about these new Nevo remotes? Features, etc. I have a buddy that has done some beta testing for Universal Electronics in the past, I'll ping him to see if he knows anything.

Even if your friend knows more you may want to be careful because I know there are some non-disclosure agreements floating around out there ;-)

You know there are non-disclosure agreements out there? Are you taking part in them?

Let me correct myself. I should have said "I'm sure there are some NDAs out there." I don't "know" if there are. I'm basing this opinion on my 10+ years of experience in Public Relations and my hope that they would have the courtesy of keeping their key dealers up to date before leaking info in CEDIA UK catalogs and on their own web site at mynevo.com/nextgen.

For the record though... even if I am under NDA the information provided is of public record and I have drawn logical speculations from that information only.

There IS NDA's and if everyone is patient UEI will release info in due time. No info is being leaked. Like every company next gen product is always on the table and being developed.

I like the way the one on the left looks now that I see the altered version of the photo. The buttons below the screen are much closer to the screen which makes much more sense than the current model. I have a lot of people that use my remote and don't correlate those buttons to the labels on the screen, because they are a quarter inch away from the label. That frees up a good amount of room for a couple extra buttons without changing the size much. I hope they have a battery that can be changed out by the user, and maybe one that holds more of a charge as well. Other than that, I love my NevoSL. The one on the right, I can do without. I don't want a smaller screen in lieu of more buttons.
It's not just a hobby, it's an obsession...

I beg to differ... and I'm sure UEI is loving every bit of it

I am under NDA with UEI, so I am not sure how much I can say. They are definately leaking a lot of data. Plus the CEDIA UK training schedule which others have already posted.

Looks good so far and I am sure UEI will be doing the right thing.

If UEI is putting out the info then it's not leaked, it's intentional. They are in a different senario in Europe as they cannot sell current gen product there due to Rohos. That area of the world is priority #1 for them to get a new model out. This has been know for some time now. They are just showcasing the new product there to keep that market happy, due to the sticky situation.

Just semantics. The Nevo Next Generation web site is being advertised in Residential Systems which is a US market book. And when I say "leak" I just mean that the information is just dripping out as opposed to full details and specs being released at once - regardless of whether it's from a legitimate source or not.

UEI is doing the same thing Philips did with the TSU9600. They are "leaking" small amounts of info, as marketing material/advertising, leading up to the actual delivery dates.

Why make new remotes when you can’t even stop the current nevo sl from sending runaway IR’s. it’s been 2 years now and this problem still hasn’t been fixed.

I never had an issue with runaway IR on over 15 installs.
