Progressive Scan must mean 'to worsen something'. Because, the further i SCAN this thread, the 'PROGRESSIVEly' worse the puns get.
Sorry, bad joke. But, proves my point, don't it?

What exactly is progresive scan, and how does a progressive scan dvd player perform better than a regular one? Zack - Sorry it has taken so long for someone to get back to you with the correct answer. This will really tick off the jerks who replied earlier, because I will answer your question without jerking you around. Progressive scan differs from interlaced by way of projecting the lines on your TV in succession, as opposed to interlaced, which projects every other line, and takes two full scans to give you the full picture. That's the short version if you get the picture. 720p gives you a great picture, but 1080i is still better due to our inability to detect the difference in 1/30th of a second renewal of the picture. In a DVD player, the progressive scan function combines the two interlaced scans to give you the 720p definition, which is HD quality. You will need a TV that accepts the RGB (component)input of the progressive scan DVD player to take advantage of this capability. Satellite HD, such as HDNet will give you the full capabilty of high definition TY at 1080i. Go for it - it is worth the extra money - just to show off to your friends and neighbors if nothing else!
