yep it was his concept too. He was just given the project "Milk" and had to come up with concepts and images that conveyed the idea of milk that were not obvious like a cow etc. He had the concept of babies addicted to milk and had an image of a child with a syringe of milk rather disturbing really but very arty.

I realised he hasnt copyrighted the image so took it off.. dont want someone ripping him off lol

I am having the image blown up and put on canvass for display in my house, i like the picture that much..you never know it might be worth a bit in the future.lol

Should point out that copyright is automatically applied to anything whether it is stated on the work or not (although he should put his name somewhere).

Otherwise, if it ever comes down to defending artwork that someone ripped off and made a ton of money on, your best protection (assuming work of computer origin) is to keep a version of the piece that is not distributed and could not be recreated by anyone else, for example a higher resolution master, or perhaps if it was done as multiple layers the layered version.

what's funny is the fear of art thieves lurking at RC... forget the legal slam dunk.

One common method is to put the copyrighted material into an envelope, seal it well, and mail it to yourself. Therefore if a court issue were ever to arise, you have a postmarked envelope showing you had it first.

Sealing wax would be a good idea then.

That method of mailing it to yourself is an old myth. Unfortunately there are people who can remove and replace items in a sealed envelope because it is not sealed at the edges, so it is not valid in court. Just opening the envelope to prove your case, destroys your evidence, making it unuseable. The best is to keep the originals and documentation with date stamps and/or a witness to sign and attest to the copywrite holder.
