Okay thanks for trying it out. As you've said, hopefully someone else will read this and confirm. I might put a note about this in the read me on next release.

My feeling is that the binary is right and it's the table on page 7 which is wrong. The documentation for the DVP-602CI has an error also. The binary suggests Genre 1 is 6 and Genre 2 is 7 (thus K6-7), but the heading at the top of the table says K4-1 !!

I hear where you've coming from with regards to subscription costs! I'd be the same.

Good to know it's working well for you. Any suggestions you have to improve it, please fire away...

I really can't think of anything, Rob. All my problems were related to understanding the Denon documentation and realizing that I just wanted the RemoteID2 codes. Since there are no decimal function numbers in the documentation and many of the codes are not listed in order, just generating a big batch file of numbers isn't very helpful for me. So I really like the way it can be used for individual codes as well as bigger batches.

Major kudos on the convenience features, too. Little things like automatically copying to clipboard and automatically jumping to the the first data digit are real time-savers. Are you a programmer by trade? You seem to have a great sense of "interface," if you get what I mean. Some people just like to display their technical expertise, while good programmers seem to actually understand the user's needs & perspective.

New update (v1.11) just submitted to Remote Central. No new features, just some GUI fixes/improvements.

All my problems
were related to understanding the Denon documentation
and realizing that I just wanted the RemoteID2 codes.

Yes, the docs do take a while to decipher.

Seriously considering switching over to remote ID 2 and Kaseikyo codes myself.

Since there are no decimal function numbers in the documentation
and many of the codes are not listed in order, just generating
a big batch file of numbers isn't very helpful for me.

I don't think the batch option is of great use for receivers due to the fact that the codes are not sequential, but codes for the Blu-ray players and the DVP-602CI are sequential so if I owned these (which I don't) I'd use batch for this.

Even if I wasn't using a Pronto and needed to import a CCF into URC software as John mentioned I'd be tempted to create a CCF with only the codes I needed using Pronto Edit 4 and them import that.

Major kudos on the convenience features, too. Little
things like automatically copying to clipboard and automatically
jumping to the the first data digit are real time-savers.

Thanks :) Yes they do save lots of time.

Are you a programmer by trade?

No. I design control panels for diesel generators (do lots of CAD drawing). I do some PLC programming every now and then, but that's all.

You seem to have a great
sense of "interface," if you get what I mean. Some people
just like to display their technical expertise, while
good programmers seem to actually understand the user's
needs & perspective.

I am ultra critical of everything. I only write programs that I need and I think how I would like to use them. Sounds like I have the right idea :)

Maybe because you are used to working with ProntoEdit. But it isn't exactly beginner friendly.

For the Denon devices where one can't find a list of functions in decimal, a non expert would need to use your tool one function at a time to convert to decimal, even if they had already used batch mode for the Pronto Hex. So if they have the Universal Browser version that accepts pasted Pronto Hex, that may be easier than using a CCF. If they don't have that Universal Browser, even using your tool one function at a time as a binary to decimal converter to guide use of a CCF created earlier with your batch mode, would be easier than going through ProntoEdit.

There are various lists and Excel sheets of these Denon codes floating around, so the Denon doc isn't the only source of the decimal function numbering.

No. I design control panels for diesel generators

I am a programmer by trade and have been for over 30 years. But I never professionally created a new GUI, not even a simple one, and almost never in hobby programming. I rarely, and not recently, enhanced some GUI's as part of my job that someone else had created. I've done slightly more of that in hobby programming. My professional work has all been the "under the hood" type processing, not the GUI. Until recently my focus has always been on squeezing big complex processing into small computers. My current job is more about getting better speed out of some really big processing. I never learned how to use any GUI creation software. Programming is programming (once you've been doing it over 30 years) so I can modify a GUI without understanding the tool set that was used to build it. But even doing that, GUI isn't my strong area. So I appreciate the several people who have layered GUI's on my various IR hobby programs, so when I have time to work on those programs I can focus on the processing.

Hmm, I beg to differ on that.

For the Denon devices where one can't find a list of functions
in decimal, a non expert would need to use your tool one
function at a time to convert to decimal

That's how this all started. I had planned on creating hex files
using MakeHex and the CCF's using Hex2CCF. Then I planned to
knock together a quick bin to dec converter to give the decimal
and I'd then hide these panels and alias to them.

However, my Pronto is rather full and this used up too much
memory.

My professional work
has all been the "under the hood" type processing

As I've said before with MakeHex I wouldn't of known where to start on this, so your "under the hood" work is essential.

I know that I am going to get lots of use out of my program and if others can benefit from it (however they choose to use it) then that's good.

Lots of users are indebted to both of you, johnsfine and Rob100. Though you didn't exactly work together on this, your combined efforts have resulted in a tool that will help Denon users far and wide.

I don't use Pronto, but my remote program can accept RC5/6 hex codes. It's supposed to be able to convert CCF and PCF files, but that always fails. So for my Denon AVP, which is new enough that there aren't any complete configuration files available anyway, function-by-function hex generation was really the only way to get many of the discrete functions into the remote. (I suppose the serial documentation has them, but I don't use serial control.)

And Rob, if I have any trouble with my diesel generator....

Wow, I really appreciate all the effort here. The program is awesome! I too have a new Denon AVP-A1HDCI. I was making very slow progress understanding how to generate k codes, but now with this utility I can focus on the layout design for my new Philips Pronto TSU-9600! Thank you very very much to johnsfine and Rob100!

For anyone that's interested I've just submitted an update of my program:

New in version 2:

Support for Sharp codes added
Program re-named (dropping Kaseikyo from the name)
Improved batch mode (integrated into GUI)

New version now on Remote Central:

[Link: remotecentral.com]

Due to program name change I seem to have lost 140 or so downloads from the counter :(

I've been testing the generated Sharp codes and am unable to get them to work. The codes generated for the AVP-A1HDCI are not the same as those generated by DenonIRCodeGenerator ([Link: remotecentral.com]).

For AVR Main Zone, I don't understand the Sharp batch generation. Is the "First Function (Dec)" the "Data (Dec No)" or is it the "Function (Dec)"? I try to enter 192 for the First, but when I TAB to the next field, "First Function (Dec)" changes to 63, which is the "Data (Dec No)" for the last function for that "Device" (2).

Here's an example:
Denon AVP-A1HDCI ([Link: usa.denon.com])
System Address (C1~C5): 01000
Ext Bit (C12,C13): 11
Data (Dec No): 1
Data (C6~C11): 100000
Key Name: POWER

From ircodegenerator:
0000 006D 0010 0020 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 06d6 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 0685 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0048 000A 0048 000A 001D 000A 001D 000A 0685

From Denon Pronto Hex Generator:

0000 006D 0000 0020 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0679 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 001E 000A 001E 000A 0046 000A 0046 000A 0679

I don't know why the codes are different (I just feed MakeHex the info it needs), but the codes do work fine. I have used the program to configure all the buttons in my pronto instead of aliasing to the hidden panels I created for the 3805 (referred to in the docs). However I used "single code" mode.

I see the problem with the batch mode. It's a stupid error on my part. The maximum value C6~C11 can give you is 63, so I've programmed it so that you cannot enter a value great than this. However bits C12 and C13 need to be taken into consideration as with these both set to 1 the maximum value should be 255.

I'm at work at the moment so cannot fix this. Will be able to do this in about 12 hours time from now. I'll submit new version to RC, but if you want to PM me your e-mail address I'll send you new version for testing.

Rob.
