yaaa, now, the 2 customers that have Android tablets can use RTI, versus the 200 that have iPads.

I was thinking the same thing.... it is great they support Android, but the interest in tablets is non-existent vs the iPad. There are so many Android smart phones with oddball resolutions, it would be nearly impossible to account for them all with a pre-made UI.

Exactly. Also, it seems people buying Android tablets are more budget concious, meaning not our customers.

Its no secret which company i think is best. Hardware quality, UI, Eco System & marketing make it the clear winner.

But...

One single reason why i am getting ready (this month) to install 10-20 android tablets at a crestron project...the ability to lock the panel to a single app.

Someone please save me and tell me i can do it with an iPad!

Android rules! Stamp depending what tablet, you will love them. I have dozens of customers with Android phones and tablets. In fact my most recent project, which over $300k, is a diehard Android fan. Uses it for some very sophisticated telemetry stuff related to his business. His IT staff has done some very neat stuff with it.
I love supporting product that supports me!

I am glad they came out with an app, I just got my XP8 and was dreading having to buy an Ipad just to use with it.

Nope Android automatically scales the resolutions from what I've been told. So build for a higher Res and let it scale it down. And nonhd apps look horrible on the new iPad. So its not an android problem its a problem with anything that has a screen.
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

TRC and GW - You are both missing the idea behind why some of us are excited to get android integration. We know the iPad rules, blah blah BUT Mac hit it right on the head.

We now have the option to lock the tablet down and make it just act as a touch pad. Remember Android is a open platform unlike like Apple. We have alot more flexibility. Just picture a kindle fire opening to the app and NO way to exit it. Once it goes into sleep, it will re-awake on the same screen.

Just yesterday I had a client call me saying Ohh i cant find the RTiPanel icon on my ipad. Spent 15min on the phone with her. Turns out her kid put the icon in another folder . Yea it was only 15min, and a simple fix, but I rather not deal with it. Last month a client deleted the app by accident, So i had to re-install the app and load it from the CP. PIA !!! Yes I charged a small fee.. but rather not deal with it.

Once we test all the tablets and create a custom\locked down image we will be selling these all day as a stand alone "remote". @ $200 we will even include them free with certain systems..

Will be the same with Win8 tablets. iPad will be last on my list to offer, only if the client asks or is a apple fan boy. Other then that, android and soon win8

The only benefit of the ipad is that there are inwall docks and the iport cradle. Hoping something comes for both andriod and win8 tablets.

Is this hard to do? Do you have to root the android? An amazon fire locked down with RTI software is pretty good.

Those are some awfully feminine hands you have there my friend. Now onto a solution: iPad or iPhone in store demo mode. It locks your screen to one app and disables the home button and multitouch swipe to home screen.

Caveat: if your app crashes you need to reboot; so would the android fanbois :-) and if the iPad is wall mounted you should use a wall mount that provides a way to access the power button or is easily removed from the mount to get to it. You also should set auto lock to 'Never' else the screen will time out and then require a tap on power and swipe to bring it back up.

Read all the way thru before clicking this link:

StoreDemoMode

Click the link on your iOS device, it initiates a profile change for demo mode in the iOS plist.

Click install.

Reboot iOS device.

Open the app you wish to have in demo mode. That's it.

To switch to a different demo mode app reboot and choose the app.

To disable demo mode reboot then goto Settings:General:Profiles and remove the profile. Then reboot and the device operates normally.

I'm using this at home for a dedicated Sonos controller and for a couple clients. Works well.

edited to include the reboot after disable feature steps....details details :-)

This is fantastic.

Best part is, it's cheap enough to sell instead of using their existing iPad plus if it's locked down it's not going on their business trip and away from the system when the family needs it.

What tablet with a non-keyboard dock will you suggest?

I am an Apple fanboy myself , however i do see an opportunity for some Android tablets in our industry . What application / method are you using to lock android to one app ?

You can lock your ipad on a single app with the red snow jail break. I have an android tablet and half of the apps look like shit because they don't scale properly...I'll stick to my ipad 1 and 3.
