I'm programminging a T1 RTI remote for one of my customers. We sold him a small system with a Integra Receiver, and a Samsung TV. He decided on Dish Network for his provider. (We sell Directv). We did the Installation, wired and left a space in the cabinet for the Dish network 811 HD receiver that was to be installed by the dish network people the next day. I came back to following day to do the remote. I was suprised to see that they had hooked up the receiver properly and it was working fine. I was not suprised to see that they had run exposed cables up the back side of the new $800,000 house to the dish on the roof, even though we had roughed in all the cables they needed to the attic. The problem I'm having is that the remote they left him is a RF remote. It is even labled that way on the bottom of the remote. I went into all the menus that I could find in the receiver setup and could not find any way to switch the receiver to IR. We don't do much much Dish Network so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Somewhere ion the menu, I think under preferences, its where you wouldnt think it would be. Anyway, you can learn from the dish reciever to a learning remote, kind of flakey but it works.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Thanks, I will go into the menu again. Did I understand you correctly that the Receiver outputs IR codes that I can capture.

Yes, Dish only supplies RF remotes now, BUT all of their receivers incl the 811 will respond to IR codes. Go the the Pronto files section and pull down a config for the 811 (or really any dish model using codeset 1), and you should be able to convert these to RTI. You have to make sure the receiver ID is set to 1, which it should be as that is usually the default. Some Dish models have a utility in the setup that will actually send IR codes for teaching a univeral remote, but I'm not sure about the 811. Also, the 811 has both a IR receiver and a IR blaster on the front panel (for controlling VCRs,etc). If you are using an IR flasher, make sure to put it over the IR receiver not the blaster. The blaster is purple/blue in color.

Shift4, You can also use any Dish remote control to program the RTI. I keep one in my bag just for this purpose. It is very easy to change the Dish remote control code back and forth between my choice of codes 1 through 17, (just in cases where you have more than one Dish receiver in the house) and wish to have them not interfere with each other.

We had the same problem, but we have found a way to disable the RF section.

If the other solutions from above have not worked, E-mail us and we will try and help.

We have all the codes for MX-850 and MX-3000. ( We think they are the best remotes in the world), and the Dish 811

I have a RMAX4000 and have learned the IR codes back from my Dish Network 811. The 811 will not respond to the RMAX4000. I removed the RF antenna - still nothing. Any ideas? Thanks, Matrafact

All,

I've discovered the reason that the new Dish 811 and 921 sat receivers do not respond to the Universal Remote Control, Inc. database entry. Since they ship with an RF ONLY remote control, installers are forced to only use the Database code entry, they cannot learn IR commands unless they have an old Dish remote control from a previous years Satellite receiver remote.

Universal Remote Control's Database code set SAT 122 is the correct code set for an 811 or a 921. However, Dish designed the product with a preamble to the IR code that can be changed by the installer in systems with more than one sat receiver (like our RF address scheme but works with either RF or IR). SAT 122 is set to the Dish address of 01. Many 811 and 921 sat receivers are shipping with address 11.

To change a DISH 811 or 921 Sat receiver to the address 01, so that our database codes will work, requires that the installer follow this procedure:

1. Program the Universal remote control to SAT 122. Put the Universal remote control aside for a minute.

2. Using the Dish RF remote, navigate the Sat receivers SETUP menus to the System ID screen. With this screen visible on the TV, you should see that the system address is currently set to 11 (or possibly some other address other than 01).

3. Now, pick up the Universal remote control and navigate to the Satellite device you programmed with SAT 122. Point it at the front panel of the Dish satellite receiver. Press and hold the Power On button (the SAT command) for at least three seconds.

4. Press the number keys 0, then 1.

5. Now, press the REC button on page 2 of the SAT device.

You have now set the Dish sat receiver to the Dish address of 01. Now the Universal Remote Control will operate the Dish satellite receiver.

If you have an old Dish remote control you can teach the Universal Remote Control discrete ON and OFF commands.

Remotes 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 support transmitting discrete receiver power on and off codes.

Remotes 4.0 and 6.0 must be converted to IR operation – see remote user’s guide for instructions.

The process for setting a remote to SEND power on and off discrete codes:
1. Press and hold SAT mode button until all mode lights are on.

2. Press POWER button.

3. Press Volume Up to transmit discrete on code.

4. Press Volume Down to transmit discrete off code.

Hope this is useful to other installers. Thanks to Todd for his kindly help! URC owes you a very big favor.

Best Regards,

-Eric

You didn't learn anything from the 811's remote, it being RF only.
