No, Origin has gone down in quality, significantly over the last few years. I've done my share of D83/D89's off just about every amp you can imagine (for DA) Triad, Audio Control, Sonos, Etc. and origin leaves a TON to be desired. when I did my first origin system in 15 when reps were pushing them, they were impressively heavy, but sounded OK. The installation method is really nice but over the years it just feels like they've been getting lighter and lighter and worse sounding.

I meant test audience. Would like to know who reviewed these speakers so high

Again, I can be very dense...

Are you asking why we like Monitor Audio speakers over Episode, Sonance, the other brand I'm spacing (it was either in-ceiling Triad or Totem)? The demo was done at least 3 years ago. It was back when Episode came out with their first gen Signature series.

I feel like he meant to reply to Snap regarding the "blind listening test" and not you.

I just realized the reason for confusion. I meant to quote the Snap guy’s post. One of the risks of posting from a phone. I was curious as to who their test audience was that rated their speakers on par with other brands.

We brought in the Origin line from all the hype. So far, Ive not been impressed AT ALL.

I never thought the Episode line sounded bad. never thought WOW either. But, OA is definitely, to me, NOT better, AT ALL. We are considering moving back to Episode for a variety of reasons. One, its just stupid simple to order, and get next day, two easy to install. But three, the most important, NOT ONE, EVER NEVER! customer complained about Episode. In fact, quite the opposite.

Lets face it, EVERYONE is in the speaker biz, why? Because its GOT to be the most profitable thing you could ever build lol. I think they are all overpriced.

We use Monitor Audio, we looked at Origin, didn't like the brackets and the sound didn't match the MA. Same with Episode.

Even MAs contractor line sounds very good for the price.

For anything we need an angled ceiling speaker, we go to Totem.

The signature line was by far some of the worst sounding speakers I've ever heard. I thought the line before signature was pretty good. I asked this question on a FB group because they fit rough in rings that were done in a take over project last week. According to a few, they only revamped the installation method, otherwise they are pretty much the same as the signature series. I have no proof of that though.

I saw them at Cedia, they look really nice but you cant tell on a show floor how they sound. I'm not interested in buying a pair to see if they sound any better then the signature series and I don't have any upcoming clients I can guinea pig on.

I originally had heard the signature series at snap when we toured a few years ago. they were driving them with some pretty good gear and they were awful. I gave them a try on a job where the client had actually asked for episode (other house out of state had it, but the timing would have been the previous generation) did the 1700 series and was equally disappointed. He also noticed they didn't sound as good as his other house.

So what's your go-to now?
