Looking at giving Episode speakers another try. We used them a few years back when the ES700 series was decent sounding. Then they went to the Signature line and changed the sound of the whole line. In my personal opinion they lost a lot of the depth they had, etc.
Well, ready to give them a shot again. For those that are using them, what are your fav models (in ceiling,in wall), Typically we use 6" in ceiling for most rooms and 8" if more base in needed (larger room, etc.).

we use their thin fit 6" model out of necessity.  They kinda suck, but they are the thinnest, fully enclosed, speaker we could find.  The grills need to be glued in place or they fall off, but we install them on yachts so I'm sure they didn't think about that when designing them.  We don't have this issue with other brands though.

To my knowledge, we haven't had to replace any of them yet and we probably have 100 of them out there so far.

The signature line was by far some of the worst sounding speakers I've ever heard. I thought the line before signature was pretty good. I asked this question on a FB group because they fit rough in rings that were done in a take over project last week. According to a few, they only revamped the installation method, otherwise they are pretty much the same as the signature series. I have no proof of that though.

I saw them at Cedia, they look really nice but you cant tell on a show floor how they sound. I'm not interested in buying a pair to see if they sound any better then the signature series and I don't have any upcoming clients I can guinea pig on.

I originally had heard the signature series at snap when we toured a few years ago. they were driving them with some pretty good gear and they were awful. I gave them a try on a job where the client had actually asked for episode (other house out of state had it, but the timing would have been the previous generation) did the 1700 series and was equally disappointed. He also noticed they didn't sound as good as his other house.

After trying multiple in wall and in ceiling speakers from snap and always being disappointed i don’t see a reason to try them again.
Speakers from companies that only do speakers generally perform much better.

I just watched a video about their pushlock dog ears. I had this idea years ago. Not the spring loaded dog ears but the "snap in" tool-less speaker install into a frame.

It sucks trying to hold the speaker up with one hand while holding the drill with another. Separating the frame from the speaker makes it so much easier.

I demoed a pair of Elura speakers at the distributor and I was very very impressed for the price, if you are looking for a distributor house line. Top end model is made by Sonance. Will be installing some soon.

Oh come on, they weren’t that bad. I mean they weren’t great, but they weren’t the worst ever. For the price though you can easily buy a better known brand that sounds much better, but I’ve heard worse. Like, their non signature line for example.

Thanks for starting this thread and expressing interest in giving Episode and the new Signature speakers a try. Signature was re-designed from the ground up mechanically and improved upon acoustically. The Episode development team is proud of the outcome and through several blind listening tests comparing Signature to other top brands in the market, we know Signature perform very favorably. I hope you give them a shot and that you feel the same way many others have given their huge sound stage, ability to play very loud without distortion and ability to accurately reproduce the content.

Anyone who feels negatively about the performance, we would love to talk to you in more detail and would be more than happy to setup some blind listening tests with the brands of your choice.

I moved on from Episode speakers after they moved from a 1" tweeter in the 6" speakers to a 3/4".

I also prefer to use audio control amps.

Who was the test audience and what competitor models did you compare to?

If you mean target audience, then I'm still not sure what you mean. LOL.

99% of our customers want speakers but do not care to audition them or put a lot of effort into determining what they want (researching). They trust us to make that determination.

If you are talking about price points, our typical speaker prices are either a $400 pair or we do Stealth Acoustics. Very rarely do go up and down a speaker line.

I think we auditioned at least 2 other brands Sonance and Monitor Audio for sure. Monitor Audio won for price/performance.
