Can the TSU9600 do 2-way control of Escient DVDM systems (and their associated DVD changers), or does this just work with the Escient music servers at the moment?

You can use the 9600 with the DVDM 100 but only for music. However, there are limitations. I have a Fireball PC interfaced into DVDM and here's what I can say.

1. The Songs view does not work.

2. If a 'Playlists' group is not found, The Playlists view picks up the 'Servers' group at the moment.

3. The Artists view does not work as there is no hard drive in the DVDM and specifically, the TSU9600 looks at List 7 (I believe it's #7 from Escient Protocol) for this info.

4. There's a bug in Escient DVDM (already reported to Escient) such that when it tells the 9600 the URL of a jacket picture, it gives it the IP address of your PC but omits the port number 7445 which is required to access the Fireball PC web interface. The workaround is to install IIS on the box and share the 7.0.5 folder installed by Fireball PC. Then, the TSU9600 will retrieve jacket pics on port 80 instead of port 7445.

Also note that with IIS, unless you specifically configure it (and I've not figured out how to do so,) you will have problems doing this if there are any titles which end in a period (.) such as Paul McCartney - Back in the U.S. That is, no jacket pics will show up for these titles.

If you can live with these limitations and have Fireball PC running to serve up music to your DVDM, then you should have not problem.

Does anyone know if Philips are likely to add support for the DVDM - and/or other video servers (kaleidescape/imerge) or are they intending to keep it audio only?

Marcus,

It may be a few months but I believe DVD-M's on the radar.

What ever happened with Sonos???

The DVD is a must have. No real need to get to the music server and not have the DVD control.

Springs,

Don't know. Why don't you email the team and ask?

Since there whole thing is Java I doubt it. There is no way to just browse to the control page either... probably need to make the request to the Pronto Team.

(Had the same issue with RTI and Request.)

What about the MX-series? I've got an MX-752 and a TSU9600 with the serial extender. The TSU9600 just says that the connection failed whenever I try to "Listen to Music".

Thanks.

To be crystal clear, you don't connect the Escient to the RFX9600. Therefore, the RFX9600 statement has no bearing to your post. The TSU9600 accesses the Escient from the network not via serial.

Did you edit the Device Properties and specify the DHCP host name of your Escient MX box or its IP Address? You also did not mention which version of the Escient Update (firmware version) you have. It must be 4.1.7.8 or higher (for E2 or DVDM-100).

If you are running the latest (Nov 2006), then the MX series may not yet be supported. Philips has only publicly stated support for the E2 series. However, music can also be accessed (although a bit crippled and this is my configuration) from a DVDM-100 using Fireball PC. Firmware 4.1.7.8 is required for this to work.

The Escient MX series should be supported as is the AVX series. If you are getting a connection failed message I would suspect a setup issue or possibly a network problem. Remember that the IP address in the Fireball must be static IP to be used in the pronto properties. Otherwise use the host name you gave to your fireball at setup and the fireball can remain DHCP.

Thanks for the feedback. Fireball software is 4.2.0.24. It's set to DHCP and its host name is "fireball". When I enter "//fireball" into IE7, I get the Fireball web GUI, and "\\fireball" brings up the folder structure, so, those things are working just fine.

The Pronto also shows green signal strength, indicating that it's seeing the network. Should the TSU9600 or the RFX9600 have host names that show up as Attached Devices in my router? If so, I'm not seeing them. There are a couple of unidentified devices on my local network. I haven't checked the MAC addresses of the TSU9600 or RFX9600, yet. I guess that's the next step.

Anywho, in the Pronto system settings, I entered "fireball" and even tried "//fireball" and "\\fireball", but still get the "Connection Failed". After these failures, I posted the post above.

Has anyone actually gotten the Pronto to see an MX-752?

Thanks.

Did you try entering the IP address of the Escient as well? You did not mention your router but I do know that entering the host address such as "DVDM-100" without quotes works with my Linksys Router. Additionally, I use static IP for my DVDM-100.

Got the MX-752 to work on the TSU9600 by setting a static IP address for the Fireball. DHCP didn't work for me.

Thanks for your help!
