I've opened the battery compartment and taken out the batteries on my MX-850 but I can't see any serial number.

What can I do to get the new software?

Just received my new MX-950 bought from Electronica Direct through Amazon.com
No software CD in the box even if the box says there should be one.
Tryed to register on URC site to get the software and I get a message " Your request has been submitted" No e-mail confirmation !!! I've redone it 3 times with no success.
My ser. number is KRXXXXXX XXXXXX.
I live in Canada and paid a premium for quick delivery so I could work on this over the week-end. This was going to be my wife's birthday present. (one remote control instead of the 6 that she can't figure out).

It looks like I've miss the boat!!!

Can someone help?

Sounds like calling URC on Monday would be your best bet. Harass your seller as well.

I had no problem getting the software through the website (of course, I bought through an AD). but, I see my TV is not listed, how often are updates made, should I take the time to "learn" the codes i need or can i wait a few days and expect an update soon?
Thanks!

Eric:

Once you've downloaded the software, it shows up as mx850setupCS.exe. Does the CS signify the control suite?

Also, there is no database update function in this version of the software - I assume it is automatic/dynamic.

Would you know where to obtain IR codes for the new Motorola DCT6416 (it has a DVR and is HD). The DCT6412 is listed and most functions work - just curious.

Thanks,

Jack

No, it's not the Control Suite.

You're downloading the non-updatable software. If you want the software with Live Update enabled, you must contact the dealer who sold you the remote.

However, even in the latest update, the DCT6416 is not present. You may need to learn the codes or find them elsewhere.

If he bought his remote from Best Buy (Magnolia), he will NOT get live updates.
(Note that Best Buy is one of the LARGEST dealers of URC remotes.)

If you have the software for your remote with live update working and your dealer is removed from the AD list will the live update feature stop functioning? I am considerinng buying this remote but if I'm going to possibly end up with a plastic paperweight I would rather go with the Philips.

Tech support sent me the link to the update-enabled version of MX850 Editor. They said they would do it as a "courtesy" to me if I sent them my receipt showing I'd bought the MX-850 from an authorized retailer.

Apparently, customer service is not their strong suit.

I emailed UniversalRemote tech support and asked them if I would be able to download the software if I bought the remote from Amazon.com.

They said Amazon is an authorized dealer, so tech support would give me the software if I emailed them a copy of the receipt.

I have 2 questions:
1) Do you think they will honor this?
2) If they do, is it going to be crippled software without the live update?

If you are in a predicament because of this new policy,
email me.

Yes I am in this predicament. I have a MX-850 which I purchased online about 1 year ago. I initially programed it. Since initial programing I replaced my computer. I npw have a new machine without any software on it. I went to the URC website to download software, no can do. My serial number appears to be of the form
L?D.D.DLLD where L = letter, D = digit and ? = zero or O. This does not seem to work as a valid serial number on the website.

Yes. They did so for me, and it was updatable.

I do not have a serial number on my MX-850. What now? This new policy is quite surprising. I also own a MX-1000 (and mx-500). How am I supposed to get the software for my 1000 as well?
