First off, this is not really the place to argue this policy. If you want to do that, go to the other URC forum, and find the monster thread.

URC is not price fixing. It's just MSRP...same as everyplace else. They don't advertise a lower price on their website, but e-mail any of the AD's, and they'll give you a much lower price.

Is your e-mail in your profile still current?

Yes my email address is current, and I figured that the message would be quickly moderated (I would, if I was moderating this group), but I was most upset. Especially as I gave them the email address confirmed it twice and 5 hours later still no software in my inbox, which they promised. Also my MX-3000 has no serial and they just keep repeating that it was impossible, which was very helpful of them. I basically got the feeling from them on the phone (I called twice and talked to 2 people), that I was a criminal for having the remote, since I have no serial to register with and could not remember who I purchased from 2 years back.

Its just not how a company should handle this matter,
ERIC

I have an MX-700 (Ver.-1 about 3yrs old) and the serial
# is in the format 1202 Axxxxx and it told me that it's
an invalid MX-700 number.

I think the only thing that's invalid is URC's policy.

I too have an MX -300 with no serial number under the battery.
Oh well....
I guess I'll look at something else as this remote was bought for me by my wife about 2 yrs ago. It got shelved until now as a project because of some other "life events". Now no updated software. It still has the plastic on the screen. This sucks.

I think it is pretty odd that alot of people are having this many issues with the URC remote control software. I have been using the 700 and above for a few years. I would say to save often as with any remote type software does have a tendancy to crash, but these issues are before the user even gets to load the software. Being a dealer and buying from a reputable distr. does make things eaiser though. If I had the same issues I'm sure my local distr. would help also as he is also into making more money and not keeping items on the shelf that do not waist peoples valuable time. If you do get past the software bugs you have on your PC, I suggest learning about the MSC-400 control station. I just learned how easy it is to program and make ANY TOAD system work flawless. SO even though you may be having issues, it is not a nationwide problem as it sounds that way to you. I still prefer URC over any other. (Except Crestron of Course!)

Good Luck,

I have not read many posts complaining about the remote software crashing. I believe most of the issues being discussed are about downloading the software. It used be readily available through URC and even this site. Now you have to register your remote's serial number through URC in order to get the software. Unfortunately many are having problems with this since URC has changed their serial number format over the years.

The other concern is that the software available through the registration process has live update disabled.

If you purchase(d) your remote from an AD or CI then they should be able to provide you with the fully functional software. There have been some occassions where an AD or CI has not, and will not, provide the fully functional software.

I guess you guys will just have to pony up and hire an authorized dealer to program your remotes. Please note that the URC "Professional" line of remotes is not intended for end-user programming. In case you missed it here's a clip from their website,

"If you are a Consumer or End-user of Professional Products-
Please contact your place of purchase to obtain programming support, software and manuals. If your dealer is unable to help you, you may download the appropriate programming software and manual here. Note: that you will be required to register your serial number and place of purchase."

Have fun!

Don't play at being a lawyer when you're not. MSRP isn't price fixing. It's entirely legal for a vendor to want to maintain a stable retail price. It's in the details of how that stability is maintained that legality becomes an issue. Having an MSRP and authorized dealers has absolutely no comparison to racketeering.

The HR20-700 is not in the database yet as it just came
out a few weks ago and is only available in certain areas.
You may be able to use some of the commands for the H20,
but it would probably be easier to learn them.

What database are you referring to? I would like to check to see if my equipment is listed before I go ahead and purchase MX-3000.

Am I the only person here who thinks it totally stinks that Eric started this thread in September and has not written a single response to any of this in three months? Of course, I haven't been to the other thread. Now if I go there and he hasn't responded there, either, I'd say just let URC go...return your remotes if you can. They surely thought they had a good idea but missed the mark so widely that they don't even know it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I'll have to agree. The idea behind it is good. The execution of it was a flop.
